Motivation in the Classroom
Tiffany Schwalb
SOC 115
Why is it importation to motivate students
• Motivating students is a great way to help students learn. If you are
not excited about what you are teaching, they are not going to be
excited to their learning and grades may start to drop.
• If teachers are excited about learning and they show the students
they love what they are doing, students are going to thieve in their
learning environment and their grades will improve.
How to motivate students
• As teachers we have a hard job, and it is our responsible to make sure
that our students are learning and enjoy learning both inside and out
side of the classroom.
• Encourage your students. Students learn better if they are
encouraged and their work is being recognized and they get a good
job. Students look for positive reinforcement, and want to know that
they are doing a great job.
Don’t give up on students
• Be as positive as you can no matter what the child is doing. As hard as
this is, I try to redirect the child and have them do something that
they like. This usually works for me and I gave the child positive
reinforcement, and tell them that I like the way they are playing. If
you give up on the child they are more likely to get in trouble and may
think that you don’t care about them so they may act up to get your
attention in any way that they can.
Take interest in your students
• As teacher we have a great job and that is that we get to be around
children and help them learn. One important thing that we can do is
get to know out students, take in interest in them and show them
that you care. Get to know their likes and even their dislikes. When
you show interest in your students you are showing them that you
care.
Assign Classroom Jobs
• One way to get students to be motivated is to assign them a
classroom job. When they get assigned a job they are taking
responsibility for that job and they are the ones that should make
sure the job is done.
• Having students be reasonability can motivate them in the classroom
as well as outside the classroom and it also teaches them to be
responsibly.
Give students choices
• Doing the same stuff everyday can get boring and students may stop
wanting to learn.
• One way to get them motivated is to give them choices. How do you
that? You talk to your students about what they would like to change
and what activities they would like to do. Take a vote on the activities
and the one with the most votes gets to wins. This will help students
as well as keep them on track and motivated to learn.
Incorporate
• Have the students be part of the learning process. Instead of you
standing up their talking and teaching, have the students tell you
what they have learned and teach it to their classmates. It will keep
your students engaged and they may even learn better.
Challenge your students
• When you challenge your students they are more likely to learn and
be motivated to learn. If they are board they may act up in the
classroom and learning would be hard because you would be focusing
on all the bad behavior.
• When you challenge your students, have them come up with some
new ways they would like to learn and incorporated into your
teaching. Make it fun for them and make sure that you are having fun
as well.
How to motivate students that don’t care
• Instill hope in your students. Make them take responsibility for their
actions as well as their grades. If you don’t care they won’t either.
• If a student fails a test, give them positive feedback. On the answers
they got right tell them good job or put a star by them. Take time out
of your day and have the student come up and the answers they got
wrong, ask them what they think the right answer is and explain to
them why they got the answer wrong.
Establish Relationship's
• Showing your students that you care is a great way to keep them
motivated. It may be rough sometimes especially if you have some
troubled students, but letting them know that you care and you are
their for them no matter may help them and be the best thing for
them.
• Giving up on your students is not an option you as the teacher need
to fight for them and their rights if you think they are being treated
with disrespect. If a student is struggling it is your job to make sure
that they succeed and do their best.
