Today I come, with a big question:
How to deal with: The climate crisis
In our world we all know is threatened by a lot of environmental problems, we have to face the bigger one, the global warming. As you know, it’s mostly due to CO2 emissions, and around half of global emissions are the result of electricity and heat production.
First of all, we have to understand the problems: CO2 emissions, the use of lands because it leads to the end of the biodiversity, the end of minerals resources and fossils fuels.
As you can see, no reduction of our emissions has occurred since any COP.
So, we have to think about what we did good and what we did wrong to build the future of energy.
Since a couple of decades, renewables energy like wind turbines and solar panel had been promoted by most of the ecologist community because it represents the complete opposite of the fossil fuels: the energy is pretty unlimited, doesn’t emit CO2 during the production of electricity and it’s decentralized.
In these two parts, I’ll try to describe the scientific consensus on the question.
Are Renewable energy helping us solving the climate crisis?
When we see the data of all of the country where we invested in Renewable energy like solar and wind, we cannot see any correlation between the part of renewable energy in the country and the carbon intensity of their electricity.
Which mean they doesn’t help us reduce our carbon emissions, and we obviously see that’s not the case of Hydro and Nuclear.
We have to understand Why? Because they don’t emit any CO2 during use.
An interesting case of study is the German system of energy production. Because it has demonstrated that even with 500 Billion € you can't lower your emission with renewable energy.
It is because of their irregularity of production, they need fossil fuels when there is no wind or sun, and this cause a lot of carbon emissions.
As you can see: the carbon footprint of the French electricity is stable and 10 times lower.
So why do we hate so much Nuclear Energy?
Is there a problem of information?
It's mostly due to a tremendous lack of information.
Half of the adults in France thinks that nuclear energy emits a lot of CO2.
But nuclear energy is the cleanest source from all other according to the ADEME and the IPCC (GIEC=Nations Unies).
Ok, it doesn’t emit CO2,
But, Is there a risk of explosion?
First we have to undertsand the differences between a risk and a danger
When we look over the 70 years data, we can easily see that nuclear energy production is the safest one.
You can all forget what you think you knew.
But don’t trust me, trust the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR),
over the United Nations 2008 report Annex D, Part VII: general conclusion, A: health risk attributable to radiations.
Chernobyl: 200 deaths attributable to radiations
Fukushima: 0 death attributable to radiations
Are nuclear power plant and nuclear weapons correlated?
There is no link between them.
Here are the two Korea, as you probably know, North Korea has a nuclear Weapon, but doesn’t have any nuclear power plants.
On the contrary, the South Korea have some nuclear power plants, but doesn’t have any nuclear Bomb.
In fact, most of the Nuclear disarmament was made thanks to nuclear reactor.
Finally,
How do we deal with the nuclear Waste?
Here is a picture of 45 years of Swiss Nuclear Waste, they would all fit in a classroom, they never harmed anybody, and for the same amount of energy solar panel would produce 300 time more waste.
In addition, Fast Neutron Generator, a mastered technology, can use these wastes and multiply by 200 the fissions resources and provide energy for mankind for century.
Is Nuclear Energy the most radiactive ?
So, when we sum up all of the information coming from reliable sources, we can see that renewable energy aren’t as good as they are promoted, and they are even worse than nuclear energy!
In term of greenhouse gases, deaths, pollutions, resources, sustainability, nuclear is better than wind turbines and solar panels.
