My Name Is Youssef Mallouk, I'm From Morocco ,22 years Old,and I Work in informatic

o A little Knowledge of HTML,CSS,Javascript…(Basic Knowledge Is enough)

I. What is a Content Management System, or CMS?
At the risk of stating the obvious, it could be said that a content management system is quite simply - a
system that manages content.
However, it is precisely the obviousness of what a CMS is and does, that has created a degree of confusion
amongst 'would be' purchases of such a system. Wrapped up in a seemingly harmless statement is enough
ambiguity to enable all kinds of products to masquerade as content management solutions.
To fully understand what it is a CMS does, we have to first define a) what it is we are referring to when we
talk about content b) what it is we understand under its management and c) what do we mean by a system.
At the risk of sounding 'obvious', only when you know what content it is you want to manage can you 'filter'
(and I mean filter) through the myriad of options that are available - and not be 'bamboozled' by sales speak
into taking the wrong product.
1. What is Content?
Content is in essence, any type or 'unit' of digital information. It can be text, images, graphics, video, sound,
documents, records etc - or in other words - anything that is likely to be managed in an electronic format.
2. What is Content Management?
Content Management is effectively the management of the content described above, by
combining rules, process and/or workflows in such a way that its electronic storage is
deemed to be 'managed' rather than 'un-managed'.
3. What is the CM System?
The system itself is definable as a tool or combination or tools that facilitate the efficient and
effective production of the desired 'output' using the managed content.
To combine all three, we can say;
"A CMS is a tool that enables a variety of (centralised) technical and (de-centralised) non
technical staff to create, edit, manage and finally publish (in a number of formats) a variety
of content (such as text, graphics, video, documents etc), whilst being constrained by a
centralised set of rules, process and workflows that ensure coherent, validated electronic
content."
4. What Is Datalife engine ?
Datalife engine or DLE is a content management system (CMS) ,it’s a php script wich :
o Allow you to easily manage your content .
o Allow you to easily build a search engine friendly website .
o Allow you to easily create an interactive website.

II. What I need to run Datalife engine?
You will need a host with these features :
You Can find hosting like that in :
- Hostgator : Hostgator.Com
- Bluehost : BlueHost.Com
- Servage : Servage.net
- Hostmonster : HostMonster.Com
And others you google them .
III. How Can I Install DLE?
1. We have to create a MySQL databse :
Using your PhpMyAdmin :
You Will see this message confirming that the database is created…
2. Go to attached folder(Datalife engine ).
3. Upload all content of the folder "Upload" to your root …
NB: in some server we find the root = httpdocs ,or www,…so upload the content of
the folder "upload" to the emplacement where you usually upload your websites
files..

4. Now You have To Make this Chmods to those folders
5. In your browser type : Www.your-website.com/install.php
6. you Will See this page :
The Wizard check the server features and requirements and compare the with the
recomonded ones…

As what you See in the image above..all features must be wrote in "Green" to confirm
that everything is Ok …
You can see that the register global is disabled (because I mde this tutorial in local
using vertrigo…)
But this is not a problem .. because if you are using a paid hosting company from
theese I mentioned before you will have no problems with this script and his
requirements ^^ .
Lets continue…
Fill in these blancks :
Such As :

1 . the domain where you are installing Datalife engine . example : http://your-web-
site.com
NB : its highly recomonded that you use a domain or subdomain and do not use a
specific folder .
2 . The databases server (in 99% of hosting company its named "localhost")
3 . The database name wich we just created before.
4 . The database base username (the admin of the database…)
5 . lol I don't know where is it
6 . the database password
7 . The admin username you want to use to log in to admin panel after you finish setup.
8 . The admin Password (choose a hard password because if you lost it you lost your
website *_*)
9 . Confirm the Password please
10 . The administrator email (to recive notification when a comment submited,an article
await moderation,a feedback sent by a username or a visitor,….ect…)
11 . Very Impotant to keep you search engine friendly .Please choose Yes(its will not
work if your hosting don't support .htaccess files with mode re-write On …if your
hosting don't support this ..you can choose no)
To Continue Just Click Install…
Now you just finished the installation wizard…it's highly recomanded to delete the
install.php and also the flder "upgrade" and remember to change the chmod of your-
website.com/engine/data/dbconfig.php to 644…
7. Now We have to explore the Admin Panel to see all its incredible features and tools…
Go to www.your-website.com/admin.php

Type you log in and password and click enter…
Welcome to your Admin Cp .
Now We will the featured tools then we will move to exlain other hiden tools ^^ .
We start by explaining the numbers ^^ .

1.To create news,articles…
When you Click Add news you Will see this page !
1.Your article title
2.choose your article category(we will see after ..how to create ,edit,remove
categoris…)
3.Your Article description (this is the text wich see the visitor when he is in the main
page and when he click on "read More" he got the rest of the news)
4.the rest of article or the full article
5.if you want to add a poll related to article ..so here you go .
6.to edit the article propertie : (is it pinned,closed,shown on the main page or not…ect)
7.to limit access to this article to a specific usergroup only(uch as VIP,editors,ect…)
8.to Publish article
9.to preview article
Lets Back to admin Panel again ^^

2.to edit ,remove,stick,pin,close articles and news ^^.(very easy don't need an
explanation ^^ )
3.to see all other admin tools…(we will back to this after)
4.to manage users(add new one ,delete another,ban others..ect…)

Lets Move to Number 5
5.To manage advertising (to add ads like google adsense,adbrite,or any advertiser or
ads network ^^ )
Click on create New Banner…

1.choose a tag (for exemple if you want to put it in the sidebar left write :
left,right,footer,header,ect…) just a tag to remember the emplacement
2.short story to remember what is this ads about ^^
3.choose the categories where you want to display this ads and choose all if you want it
to be displayed on all categories ^^
4.just past the code of your ads here..
5.choose the usergoup wich you want to display this ad for…(choose all if you want that
it be displayed for everu member).
6.you can edit these options as what you like
7.these options are for ads wich they are displayed on the main page only…you can
choose where the ad will be displayed ..(betwenn the posts ,after the 3rd
posts..ect…)try
everone of them to see what you like…
Lets Back to Our Admin CP and Click the number 6.
6.To enter to your website general settings..

You Will See this Page ….

1.Your Website title..
2.Your Website link with ending slach "/".
3.your website language encoding
4.you website description(will apear in meta tags)
5.your website main page keywords(will apear in meta tags)
6.brief site name(will apear on your website if your are using a dle template using a
speedbar…we will find out what is this later..
7.you website time zone offset.
8.Chose yes to turn the website Of choose no to keep the website online.
9.Enable seo function?it mean make links as looks like :
"yourwebsite.com/category_name/post_name.html"
I think this better than
"yourwebsite.com/index.php?do=newsId=120"ect….
10.choose your website language ^^ (I think English is better make your website
international ^^ )
11.skin : change your default template by another one witch you already uploaded its
folder to : "yourwebsite.com/templates/".
12.enable or disable Gzip .. it's your Choice ^^
13.Use WYSIWYG editor?i think just enable it because it's really better ^^
14.Use WYSIWYG for static page?this is your choice using it or not is not a problem ^^

Lets move to How to dusplay news just click on this icon in this page too

1.How many articles you Want to display them in your main page?
2.edit the smilies shortcuts
3.date format
4.chose a criteria to publish article with (date,rating,…)
5.where new articles will be displayed
6.when you attache an image to a post where it will be posted?
7.notify admin when a new article is posted by a new member?

9.this one is your choice too ^^
10.when you post the full article in the description part would like to hide the "read
more "link?
11.this is used to post comments and articles via WYSIWYG editor from the main page
12.enable this or not is your choice ^^

3.how many coimments you want to display per page? I think displaying 10 by 10 is
better than 30 (it make the website very low *_*)

7.date and format (click the "click here for more informations" to see the many formats

Lets Move To Number 7 and see this incredible tool ^^ .
This is about sending a news letter or an email to all your member what ever there
number it was ^^

Chose you editor you will use in writing and composing the message
Then click next
Choose a title for the email or the message,type your "bla bla " I mean you message in
the textfield named "Message text"..
And when its done click Send
Click start to start sending the email to all your members ^^

Number 8 is about creating a static page ,it's just like creating anew artilce ^^ the
same wizard
9.Use it to clean your database (it will delete outdated comments,articles,Pm,ect…) to
reduce the load of the page..
10.If you Are So Lazy and you don't want to write your content…you want just to grab
the content of some websites.. so this is your loved tool^_^ it just require a link for a
RSS Feed .
Then…

1.RSS feed URL
2.A small description
3.number of he news you want the script grabe from this feed
4.Categhory where to post the feed posts..
5.assign a date to posts..
6.these articles will be displayed on the main page?
7.allow rating or not?
8.allow comment or not?
9.RSS Coding ? leave the bbcode it works in 99% of feeds url

Lets Start By the number 1 the Datalife options .

We already Saw the work of the System Settings..So..now we will move to add
categories as what we said before ^^
1.the Catgory Name example :News
2.the seo Url : this is so important example : if you category name is : News the seo
url will be news and when you browse a post or article in this category the link will be
"yourwebsite.com/news/post_name.html"
3.category description (It apears in the meta tags when you are browsing this category)
4.Category keywords (metatags keywords for this category)
5.parent category.
Click add to fhinish
The next tool is maintenance

1.We already saw this tool in the featured tools
2.when you got a fatal eror when you are trying to browse you website just chose
repaire database and it will help to solve the problem if it was related with the
database…
3.try to get backups of your database(I prefer daily )to do not lost your website if
something go wrong with your hosting company ^^
4.this used to restre a saved database (just select the database from the dropdown list
and click restore )
About costum articles fields ..never mind you will not have to use it ^^
Lets Move now to Controling Users options
We already saw how to add,search,ban,edit a member,so we will just see how to edit
privelege for each uergroup.

These are the default UserGroups choose new user group or just edit one of them as what
you like
Here is the list of the privilleges wich you can grant or deny for evry user group

Now we have to Know how to edit the template files .
1st
of all …every template or style must have in "regular "this form :
It's a folder wich contain some folders for images,some css files,and many .tpl files.these
tpl files are the files wich you have to edit them If you want to edit a template (they are
based on html language so a little knowledge in HTMl Can help you ^^ .)
When you click edit template you got his page :

I'll Show you every template and what is its work and its emplacement:
Main.tpl : the main page this file is a block wich contain almost every module preinstalled
with dle such as : archives,poll,calendar,ect…
I'll show you how to edti it …

Lets back to time where I show you how to add an advertising to the website …we saw
how to create it but we didn't saw how to add it to the website to display it in the main
page ..this the time to do it ^^
So .. if the name of slot we created was "footer" so the banner become a module wich
have to be added to the main page with a name of banner_footer and we have to put in
the place where we want to display this ads : {banner_footer}.
Shortstory.tpl : this the block of the description of the article you can edit to add how many
comments are added to this article,rating,views,author,ect…
For example if we want to add the name of author to the description : we just have to add
{author} where we see that is the right place for it .
fullstory.tpl : the full article template
addnews.tpl : the add story template ,where a member want to add an
article(yourwebsite.com/addnews.html) the script uses this template .
registration.tpl : when a visitor come to register the script uses this template.
Comments.tpl : the comments teplate.
addcommets.tpl : the add comments template.
userinfos.tpl : when someone brows a user profile the script call the userinfos template
search.tpl : used for the search results
stats.tpl : used to display statistics
pm.tpl : used for private messaging
offline message : when you turn the website Off the content of this file is what will be
displayed for your visitors and members
feedback.tpl : if someone wants to contact you this the template used
lostpassword.tpl : if someone lost his password this is the used template
Move on to info and errors message editing ^^

These texts are used to notify users where they recive a feedback or when someone
added an article and its waiting for approval, ect.. ….
Lets Move to Number 4 Wich Is the Filter Controls :
Starting by eliminate the sensor Words :

Seconde Setting is the Ip Based access or Banning by Ip adresses :
If you Want to Search a user by his ip adress Use the 3rd
tool ^^ the IP Utilities :

If you Wan to replace something wic have some big frequencies in your websites like a
word in your articles or something like that use the "Find and replace" in MySQl wich is the
4th
tool here ^^
Lets Move to the last section of setting we will see ^^ after we finish this section of admin
pannel you will be aware of everything about the "Datalife engine administration panel".
So .. Get ready to Work ^^

- For the static pages We already saw that is like adding san article ^^ no much diference
^^
- We Already Saw How it Works the advertising System .and I'll explain it again to be clair
for everyone ..
When you create a new banner or a new advertising "Bloc" its name is "{banner_name-of-
bloc}" you Just have to choose the right place for it in yourr template
(sidebar,header,footer,ect…) and past the name {banner_name-of-bloc} in the place you
choosed ..that's All ^^
- How to edit the poll bloc :
It's very easy too ^^ ,after you click on the poll icon :

Click the name of the Poll :

Edit the question (wich is the name of the poll) and also the answers!
- We already saw to send multiple messages(emails)to all members ^^
- Use the upload manager to upload ,resize and watermark images on your server
- Use the Mysql optimisaion tool to remove outdated
cotent(articles,comments,Pms,ect…)
- We Already Saw how to use the rss feed to generate automated content to your
website using rss feeds.
- To add a side bar wich content a little content based on rss feed from another
website :

Now you Have just to add the tag {informer_dle} wich is the name of this informer tag to
your template in any side bar or the emplacement you want..
Now this is the last tool you find in your admin Cp ^^ the google sitemap generator.
With one and only one small Click you can gerate an optimised sitemap(.xml) whatever
was your quantity of news …
Making a sitemap for your content Was never so easy as using datalife engine .
We Will take A break then we move to the Last step wich must everyone of us
know it wich is installing and using modules.

some modules are already installed ^^ like popular news,calendar,poll,ect…

1st
We have to know how to add these modules to our template ..So follow these steps
please:
1 . Open main.tpl file wich is the template of the main page …
2 . Here is how it looks (using macromedia dreamweaver):

In this Step We will know 2 most important things
1. How to Install module and use them..
2. How to install and costumise new datalife themes(templates).
1. How to Install modules ?
Datalife engine is not like Vbulletin,phpbb,joomla,wordpress,ect.. or any other CMS
wich they have a lots of mods and hacksand you can easily install them using admin
Cp ..
Datalife engine have too small resources o_0 and little modules…and few templates
^^
But the best thing is with a little knowledge of PHP ,MySQL,HTML,CSS,JS you can be
a "Datalife Engine Master"…

As I said before some modules are already installed when you install a fresh datalife
engine ^^ these modules are :
-poll you can add it just by adding this tag :{vote} to your template wherever you
want .. and I mean by your template the main.tpl file.
-Popular news you can add it by adding this tag : {topnews} to your template(main.tpl)
-Calendar : you can add it to your website by adding this tag : {calendar}to your
template(main.tpl)
-Archives : you can add it by adding {archives} : to your template(main.tpl).
-the advertising module is also can be added like we saw before…like :

Now lets move to the others modules wich they are not pre-installed with DLE …
1. Online Module :
This how it should looks like in your Websites:
When your mouse come over a uername it looks like this ^^

1 . Go to attached folder DLE modules/Online_fixed/.
2 . Upload the files in the folders /engine/modules/ ,/engine/data/,/engine/inc/ to
your server in the same emplacement ..
For example upload the file /engine/modules/online.php to your-
server/engine/modules/
3 . Upload "online.tpl" to your template folder .Eexample :

4 . Upload install.php to your root to be your-website.com/install.php.
5 . Run your-web-site.com/install.php.
