From my research into existing products I have learnt that the pop music magazines around at
the moment are more aimed at young girls aged between around 7-13. I’m planning on making
my magazine for 13-18 year olds so there is a gap in the market for my magazine. A lot of the
pop magazines I looked at incorporated bright colours into their pages and cover so this is
something I will include in my magazine. Also I found that the cover pictures are posed, often in
a studio, so my images for the front cover will also be posed. Most of the pictures within the
magazine were also posed. In many of the pop magazines I looked at there were a lot of
pictures but the picture to text ratio was about equal, so I will try and get a lot of pictures into
my magazines, especially the double page spread. In Billboard magazine the front cover only
has one main picture then lots of text which was the cover I liked the most so I will try and
work this into my cover.
From my primary audience research I found that my audience is 50% male and 50% female aged
mostly 15-20. 70% of those questioned said they do listen to pop music, 20% said they occasionally
do and 10% said they didn’t listen to it at all. I asked how often people buy magazines and 5% said
once a week, 20% said every 2 weeks, 30% said every month and 45% said hardly ever. 55% of people
asked buy magazines to read it, 35% buy them because there is a certain celebrity on the cover, 5%
buy to look at the pictures and another 5% buy the magazine for the free gift. 55% of my audience
said they do not read music magazines whilst 45% said they do. I asked how people find out about
new artists 1 person said through music magazines, 4 people said from the radio, 7 people said
through friends and another 7 people said from the television. 9 people said they buy CD’s, 7 people
illegally download songs and 3 people buy music from iTunes. My last question was how often do you
attend music events in which 45% said once a year, 35% said more than once a month and 20% said
never.

Audience researsh analysis

  • 1. From my research into existing products I have learnt that the pop music magazines around at the moment are more aimed at young girls aged between around 7-13. I’m planning on making my magazine for 13-18 year olds so there is a gap in the market for my magazine. A lot of the pop magazines I looked at incorporated bright colours into their pages and cover so this is something I will include in my magazine. Also I found that the cover pictures are posed, often in a studio, so my images for the front cover will also be posed. Most of the pictures within the magazine were also posed. In many of the pop magazines I looked at there were a lot of pictures but the picture to text ratio was about equal, so I will try and get a lot of pictures into my magazines, especially the double page spread. In Billboard magazine the front cover only has one main picture then lots of text which was the cover I liked the most so I will try and work this into my cover.

From my primary audience research I found that my audience is 50% male and 50% female aged mostly 15-20. 70% of those questioned said they do listen to pop music, 20% said they occasionally do and 10% said they didn’t listen to it at all. I asked how often people buy magazines and 5% said once a week, 20% said every 2 weeks, 30% said every month and 45% said hardly ever. 55% of people asked buy magazines to read it, 35% buy them because there is a certain celebrity on the cover, 5% buy to look at the pictures and another 5% buy the magazine for the free gift. 55% of my audience said they do not read music magazines whilst 45% said they do. I asked how people find out about new artists 1 person said through music magazines, 4 people said from the radio, 7 people said through friends and another 7 people said from the television. 9 people said they buy CD’s, 7 people illegally download songs and 3 people buy music from iTunes. My last question was how often do you attend music events in which 45% said once a year, 35% said more than once a month and 20% said never.
