Electronic proof of delivery or collection delivers the core business benefits of increased delivery accuracy, real-time availability of delivery information and the elimination of paperwork together with its associated re-keying back office costs. Implementing electronic proof of delivery or collection requires the use of mobile data terminal to download the delivery manifest, collect delivery or collection data (including any claused items and signature on glass) and upload the completed transaction back to the Transport Management Centre (TMC) or other host software. The mobile data terminals used can be any Pocket PC platform including ruggedised industrial data terminals and personal digital assistants such as the Journada or XDA. Terminals can be linked to the in-vehicle computer (IVC) to utilize its GPRS communications or may have their own GPRS communications capability. The processing power of the mobile data terminal can also be used to run other applications to assist the operation or driver such as last mile satellite navigation and pre-journey vehicle inspection checks. Increased accuracy of loading against manifest Elimination of paperwork Increased accuracy of deliveries or collections Reduced administration and back office overheads Faster loading / unloading of vehicle using bar code or RFID auto ID Faster and more accurate invoicing from clean delivery note Ability to manage van sales and service applications Enforces company policy for delivery /collection
