This document is a summary of a webinar about maximizing technology donations through TechSoup. It provides an overview of the various donation programs available through TechSoup for nonprofits and libraries, including donations of Microsoft, Intuit, and Symantec software, as well as discounted and donated hardware options. It also describes the educational resources TechSoup offers such as webinars, newsletters, and networking opportunities to help nonprofits implement donated technology.
Welcome everyone to: Title
Thanks so much for joining us today.
Before we get started I want to make sure everyone is comfortable using Readytalk, the webinar platform we are using today. You can chat using the box in the lower left side of your screen. At any time let us know if you have any technical issues such as audio problems or being able to view the slides. You may ask questions for our presenters at any time and we will keep track of them. We will keep all lines muted so that you can get a clear recording to refer to later. You will get that full recording, slides, and any links we share today in a followup email from me by tomorrow. If you lose your connection, you can go back to your registration email to reconnect.
If you were registered more than an hour ago, the reminder email has the PowerPoint slide deck attached as a link in the right hand column. Keep in mind a lot of today’s webinar will be a live shared demo so that won’t be in the slides, but will be in the recording to view later. If you are hearing an echo, you may be logged in twice, so you will need to close one of the Readytalk windows. If you have any other technical issues, dial into the 800 number.
TechSoup doesn’t just help NGOs overcome barriers to effective use of technology. We also help NGOs overcome language, economic, geographic, cultural, knowledge, and access barriers.
We create new ways to access technology, new paths to connect and network, and new means to learn and develop skills — all so that NGOs can operate at their full potential, more effectively deliver their programs and services, and better achieve their missions.
TechSoup Global doesn’t just help NGOs overcome barriers to effective use of technology. We also help NGOs overcome language, economic, geographic, cultural, knowledge, and access barriers.

Hopefully you fall into one of these categories, but if not, you can still benefit from TechSoup’s free webinars and resources, which I’ll talk about a little later in the presentation.
TechSoup’s bulk registration and donation tool help you get tech to all of your library‘s branches or affiliated organizations/chapters at once. You can register all of your branches at once and request technology in bulk. For example, we worked with the Peninsula Library System, which is located south of us in California, to get all of their libraries registered and hooked up with the Mobile Beacon Hotspots. If you’re interested in learning more about this process, please contact me after this presentation and I can put you in contact with our client services lead for bulk imports.
The Microsoft donation program is really the hallmark for TechSoup and what we’re most well-known for. You can get donated versions of Microsoft Windows, Office, Office 365, and Windows Server for your public library.
You can upgrade your public access computers to Windows 7, 8, or 10 through TechSoup for $15/license. I also wanted to mention that if your computer is already running Windows 7 or 8, you can get a free upgrade to certain editions of Windows 10 directly through Microsoft until July 29, but not the Enterprise version of Windows 10. You can get that through TechSoup. http://forums.techsoup.org/cs/community/b/tsblog/archive/2015/07/29/get-windows-10-for-your-organization.aspx
You can also get Microsoft Office Standard and Professional Plus through TechSoup as well as Office for Mac. And finally, you can get donated versions of Windows Server software through TechSoup as well.
The Symantec donation program at TechSoup provides Symantec Enterprise andSymantec Norton products to eligible nonprofits and charities throughout the United States.
You can use Symantec Enterprise products to enhance security on multiple networked computers. Symantec donations include products that can be used in small and medium as well as large enterprise environments.
You can use Symantec Norton products to enhance the security and performance of individual devices that are not part of managed corporate or enterprise networks.
In addition to Symantec Enterprise and Norton products, we also offer security products from Bitdefender and Comodo.

I also wanted to talk about TechSoup Boost (www.techsoup.org/boost), a fairly new subscription program that bundles together software and hardware. This program let’s you sample a number of programs without having to pay that admin fee. Programs included in Boost this quarter are Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements, Tableau Desktop, Tableau Training and Support, Shopify, and more.
Small organizations (annual operating budgets of $500,00 or less) - $79
Midsize (more than $500,00 and less than $2mil) - $99
Not only does TechSoup have a large catalog of software, but we also offer many hardware options as well.
The best way to explore your hardware options at TechSoup is to visit our “Hardware Favorites” page. The URL is pretty simple to remember and I’ve listed it on this slide. You’ll see our newest products at the top and our most requested laptops, desktops, accessories, and more. http://www.techsoup.org/hardware
I am so excited to tell you about our newest hardware offering, mobile hotspots from Mobile Beacon. As a nonprofit and one of the largest national educational broadband service (EBS) providers in the U.S., we are deeply committed to helping libraries deliver services with a combination of services and products.
You can use Mobile Beacon hotspots for outreach at schools or farmer’s markets, to power your bookmobile, or to start a hotspot lending program so patrons can bring the internet home.
Here’s the pricing structure for Mobile Beacon hotspots. Before purchasing the hotspots, you’ll want to make sure that your area has Sprint coverage.
The Refurbished Computer Initiative (RCI) program at TechSoup provides high-quality, competitively priced desktops, laptops, and other hardware to eligible libraries.
TechSoup has partnered with industry-leading computer refurbishers.
The RCI program offers new and refurbished hardware products from top manufacturers like Dell, HP, and Lenovo. All products are designed to meet the rigorous standards of corporate users, not individual consumers for home use. TechSoup's refurbisher partners guarantee that all hardware is in excellent working condition and has undergone thorough testing, repair, restoration, and cleaning.
Refurbisher partners offer standard and extended warranties on most products and one-year extended warranties and troubleshooting assistance. They accept returns on damaged products, subject to their approval. Computers come with custom images that include preinstalled software, saving organizations both time and money. Most desktop and most laptop computers include a Windows operating system, a Microsoft Office suite, and Microsoft security software preinstalled. Administrative fees include shipping and handling.
Your library can save up to 45 percent on Dell products, including laptops, desktops, servers, printers, and more.
Employees and volunteers at your organization can also save on their own Dell purchases. They can save on Dell laptops, desktops, TVs, gaming systems, accessories, and more.
JourneyEd.com has partnered with TechSoup to make academic discounts on more than 5,000 software and hardware products available to all nonprofits. Most of these discounts were previously only available to students, schools, or others in the educational marketplace.

I put a picture of the SF public library’s makerspace because JourneyEd is an excellent resource for makerspaces. JourneyEd.com products come from more than 200 vendors and include products like Camtasia, digital cameras, Corel products for video production, 3d printers and filament, charging stations, and so much more.

Adobe Creative Cloud is a collection of creative design desktop applications, mobile apps, and services for designing, developing, and publishing graphical, video, audio, and interactive content for print, the web, and mobile devices.
This offer provides access to discounted rates for a Creative Cloud All Apps plan individual membership for one user. You'll receive 60 percent off Adobe's current rates for the first year and 40 percent off every year after. After you request this offer through TechSoup, you'll pay Adobe $19.99 per month or $239.88 for the first year for the discounted membership.
Here’s the full list of our corporate partners. I’m going to talk a little bit about the different ways you can browse the TechSoup catalog.
So let’s talk about how to get registered so you can start getting technology from TechSoup
The sign up process is really simple. You first register as an individual – every TechSoup account has a person and an email address attached to it.
You’ll then be asked to register your organization. Before you sign up, we recommend having your EIN Employer Identification Number or FSCS ID for your library on hand. As you go through the registration process, do not hesitate to contact TechSoup if you have questions or concerns. Our client services team is reachable by phone and by email and you’ll have that information available as you go through the process.
Let’s talk about how to find products.
There are a few different ways you can look for products on TechSoup.org. You can search by keyword or use our browse dropdown menu.
When you search, you’ll not only see relevant products, but you’ll also see related articles, webinars, blog posts, forum posts, and more.
You can also search by donor partner, like Adobe for example, and see all of the products we offer donations or discounts on.
And finally, you can browse by solution, like mobile, web design, accounting, and more.
When you find something you’re interested in, you can click on it and you’ll be taken to the product page. Here you will find information about the admin fee, system requirements, eligibility requirements, and other important documentation. When you’re ready to buy, you simple place it in your shopping cart and check out when you’re finished shopping.
In addition to our donation program, we also have free webinars and resources tailored just for libraries.
We have monthly webinars just for public libraries in addition to weekly more general webinars on varying technology topics, such as Excel tips, How to Use QuickBooks, digital storytelling, and more.
If you aren’t already getting it, I highly recommend subscribing to the TechSoup for Libraries newsletter, which has all of our recent content, upcoming webinars, and more. I’ll show you where to subscribe on TechSoup for Libraries in a second.
