Sector Needs: In a global survey conducted by TechSoup in 2020, most
nonprofit leaders identified the lack of staff training, culture change and
cost of adoption as barriers to adopting digital tools. But only 22% of
organizations held frequent or regular staff trainings.

We know that there is a sector-wide need for skills training for
nonprofit staff and volunteers that is easily accessible, relevant
and contextualized to their unique challenges. TechSoup Courses
aims to fill this gap in skills training to improve the digital
transformation and resiliency of the sector and Civil Society as a
whole.

Behavior-Change Focused (BCF) adult learning content that is

We use a SMART Behavior Change Focused (BCF) – Learning
Design approach for all instruction and training in order to meet
our program and instruction goals.
ADDIE Model
• Analysis: Who are the learners, what are their needs, what are triggers and focus points.
• Design: What instructional approach to use (activities, cases, exercises, tools, etc.), design evaluation
• Development: How we develop the design and work with SMEs
• Implementation: Launch in the TechSoup Learning platform (LMS)
• Evaluation: Conduct evaluation of knowledge and impact

We use the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Framework to evaluate the
long-term impact of the training and instruction provided
through our courses.

The learning design methodologies employed in our online courses have been
successful at helping nonprofit learners increase their application of the training
at work, including improving their effectiveness and use of technology.
In recent Kirkpatrick evaluations of the outcomes and impact of Excel courses on their jobs, 10,910 learners gave a rating of 3.5
(out of 5) for achieving learning objectives and 90% of the respondents found the training engaging. Even months after taking the
online courses, 96% reported improvement in efficiency and effectiveness at work.

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Reaction – Is the instruction engaging? How do the learners feel about the instruction and the delivery (the interface, learning experience, etc.) Learning - Is the instruction effective? Have learners acquired the desired knowledge and skills as stated in the learning objectives Behavior - Is the instruction impactful? What is the impact of the knowledge on individuals and on their job months after the instruction Results - Is the instruction impactful? What is the impact on the nonprofit organization resulting from the provided learning or training Level 1 At this time, we only completed Level 1-3 for the evaluations. We will begin implementing Level 4 in our evaluations soon.

The learning design methodologies employed in our online courses have been successful at helping nonprofit learners increase their application of the training at work, including improving their effectiveness and use of technology. In recent Kirkpatrick evaluations of the outcomes and impact of Excel courses on their jobs, 10,910 learners gave a rating of 3.5 (out of 5) for achieving learning objectives and 90% of the respondents found the training engaging. Even months after taking the online courses, 96% reported improvement in efficiency and effectiveness at work.
