is a process of influencing/ motivating a group of people for the purpose of
achieving a shared/ common goal.
Management
This is a process of planning , organizing , coordinating ,directing and
controlling the activities of others.
3. leadership style
This is the leader’s method of providing directions ,implementing plans
and motivating people.
Role: Allows a leader to communicate better, assess other’s needs, and
forge productive relationships.
4. Personality style.
In relation to effective leadership personality style is based on
assertiveness and expressiveness. i.e
Assertiveness :is the degree of effort someone makes to influence others
Expressiveness: Degree of effort people put forth when they reveal their
emotions to others.
Assertiveness + Expressiveness leads to four personality style

5. Personality Styles.
A)Direct- Direct leaders posses an exceptional degree of confidence and are not afraid to get big results.
They lead by taking actions.
They use increased level of assertiveness and low expressiveness.
B)Considerate
It is same as encourage others
This leader use low assertiveness and high expressiveness .
These leaders engage others and they excel at being supportive and active listeners.
C)Systematic/Executes results
These leaders are detail oriented and use informed decision making to bring about high levels of performance.
They are always accurate , deliberate and focused.
D) Spirated /Encourages others
These leaders have a talent to inspire and motivate others to achieve a common goal.

6. Types of leadership styles
There are six most common leadership styles.
1. Transformational leadership
2. Delegative leadership
3. Authoritative leadership
4. Transactional leadership
5. Participative leadership
6. Servant leadership
NB
A leader should know his/her leadership style so that one can determine how
this affects those he/she influences and also helps one to find his/her
leadership strength.
7. Transformational leadership style
It emphasizes change and transformation.
The leader strive to inspire his /her followers toachive.
This type can be highly effective in organization looking to make
significant changes/transformations.
8. Delegative leadership style or laisses-faire
It focuses on delegating initiative to team members.
It is one of the least intrusive forms of leadership.
Leaders who adopt this style have trust and rely on their employees to do their
jobs.
They don’t micromanage or get too involved in providing feedback or guidance
This allows employees to utilizes their creativity ,resources and experience to
meet their goals.
It is successful if team members are competent and take responsibility for their
work.
NB can bring about disagreement among team members and may split or
divide a group thus should be kept in check.
9. Authoritative leadership styles
Referred to as visionary type of leadership.
The leader consider themselves mentors to their followers.
It emphasizes a “follow me” approach .
The leader chart a course and encourage members to follow.
They tend to motivate and inspire those around them .
Provides overall direction and provide their teams with guidance ,feedback and
motivation.
It promotes a sense of accomplishment or achievement
It relies heavily on getting to know each team member.
This allows a leader to provide guidance and feedback on a more personalized level
helping individual to succeed.
NB Authoritative leaders must be cautious not to micromanage to avoid negative
sentiments .
10. Transactional leadership style
Referred to as managerial leadership.
It relies on reward and punishments.
It emphasizes structure.
The leadership sets clear team goals or tasks and clarify how their teams
will be rewarded /punished for their work.
It is more concerned with efficiently following established routines and
procedures than making transformational organizational changes.
It establishes roles and responsibility for each employee.
11. Participative leadership style
Referred to as democratic leadership.
It encourages leaders to listen to their employees and involve them in the
decision making process.
Requires leader to be inclusive , utilize good communication skills and crucially
be able to share power/responsibility.
It encourages collaboration through accountability.
It leads to a collective effort of a team to identify problems and develop solution
instead of assigning individual blame.
Its is associated with spontaneous open and candid communication.
It helps to build trust with employees.
Empowers and encourages teams members to share their ideas on essentials
matters demonstrating their value to a team.
12. Servant leadership styles
It is the one that puts the needs of others first.
It emphasizes creating strong relationship with those around you and focuses on enabling them to reachtheir full potential.
It requires leader to focus on understanding the people is working with and develop their abilities ,while also setting a good example and
understanding their personal goals.
It is about ethical decision making.
Decision made based on what is right for everyone involved ,rather than just benefitting a select few.
It fosters an environment where creativity and problem solving thrive as team members feel empowered to suggest new solutions and
build upon each other’s ideas.
This style can result in improved communication between all involved parties from seniors management to front-line employees.
NB : Remember that leadership is not about being perfect but authentically leading.
As a leader it is vitally important to be open to (and to seek actively) feedback and be willing to adjust your approach as needed.
