CLASS 3
Subject - English
Chapter - Nouns and its types
Date of Creation: 2/11/2021
Singular and plural noun
Meta Description: A singular noun refers to only one object,
animal or person. Plural nouns refer to more than one object,
animal or person.
Description
This worksheet is for class 3 English grammar, comprising the
topic of singular and plural nouns. It will help students to have a
better understanding of the English language and its rules in
general.
After solving the worksheet, students will have a better
understanding of common and proper nouns. They will also be
able to answer the following questions:
1. What is a noun?
2. What are the types of nouns?
What is a noun?
A noun is any word used to describe or refer to a person, place,
animal, things etc.
For example, there is this girl called Anjali.
Here, the name Anjali is a noun since it describes a person.
We can use a verb in the form of a noun too.
For example, Anjali is doing the activity of dancing.
Here, we use 'dancing' to describe what Anjali is doing. Dancing
generally gets used as a verb. For example, he is dancing. It
proves that a verb can be used as a noun too.
www.takshilalearning.com call 8800999284
Similarly, we can also use pronouns as a noun.
For example, he is going to the playground.
Here, we use 'he' to denote the person, but 'he' is also a pronoun.
It proves that a pronoun can be used as a noun too.
Examples of nouns are - Ajay, Ram, Sita, Tiger, Eagle, Tree,
Plant, Field, Russia, India etc.
In this worksheet, we would be practising singular and plural
nouns. But first, let us look at the type of nouns.
What are the types of nouns?
There are the following types of nouns:
1. Proper nouns
2. Common nouns
3. Abstract nouns
4. Concrete nouns
5. Countable nouns
6. Uncountable nouns
7. Collective nouns
8. Compound nouns
What is a countable noun?
Countable nouns refer to things, animals or places that we can
count using numbers.
Example 1 - 5 Apples. Here, we can count that there are five
apples present.
Example 2 - 10 ants. Here too, we can count the number of ants,
that is ten.
If we have to use countable nouns in the sentence, we can use
them in the following manner:
 Ram is going to bring five apples.
 There are at least ten ants on the wall.
What is a singular noun?
www.takshilalearning.com call 8800999284
A singular noun refers to only one object, animal or person.
Example 1 - I have a blank notebook. Here, the singular noun
refers to a single blank notebook.
Example 2 - There is a fish in the pond. Here, the singular noun
refers to only one fish present in the pond.
What is a plural noun?
Plural nouns refer to more than one object, animal or person.
Example 1 - I have a stack of notebooks. Here, the singular noun
refers to a single stack, but the plural noun is the stack of
notebooks.
Example 2 - There is a school of fish in the pond. Here, the plural
noun refers to a school of fish, meaning a lot of fishes together,
present in the pond.
So now that we know what are singular and plural nouns, let us
look at some fun exercises.
Fill the table with respective singular nouns and plural nouns.
