3. Process
• The first stages of the poster I started with taking and image of Sam (my
actor/protagonist). I made him stand facing away with his hand slightly out like
as if hes holding a knife.
• I then uploaded the image to Photoshop and erased all the white with the
select tool. I then duplicated the image and changed the colour overlay of the
duplicate to black with the blending the options. I hid the original image for if I
need it as back up. I dragged the image to a general spot of where I needed
him.
• I then started with the background on a layer bellow sam by painting the
edges of the screen black leaving a window. Within the window I drew lines
top to bottom representing blinds.
• Another layer bellow the window I coloured the it entirely bright red. I drew a
black city scape above the layer of the red background appearing through the
window. I lowered the opacity of the city scape and then drew another black
city scape above the original. I lowered the opacity of the new city scape but
less than the original so that it is darker. This added depth to the city making it
more appealing.
4.
5. Process
• For this stage I selected Sam and highlighted his edges with red on a layer above to
make it seem as if the light from the window is reflecting off of him. I erased lines
off the highlight to indicate the shadow of the blinds.
• I then selected each gap between the blinds and painted over it with the same red
as the sky on another layer. This left me with a square with red bars. I dragged the
square down bellow the window and used control drag to morph the square to
look like the light from the window is hitting the floor. I then duplicated Sam again
and flipped him vertically. I control morphed him to look like his shadow hitting
the floor.
• I then took a picture of my second actor James to lay down on the floor looking
dead. I uploaded this image to Photoshop and erased the white. I duplicated the
image and hid the original as backup.
6.
7. Process
• As I did with Sam I changed the colour overly of James to black using blending
options. I dragged his body and placed him laying over the floor but to the right of
the reflected day light obscuring half his body only showing his legs and feet.
• This however looked a little odd as the angle of the floor was different to the way
the angle James is laying. I used the control morph tool to make it seem as if James
is laying in the correct perspective.
• Similar to Sam I selected James and highlighted the edges with red on a layer
above. I also erased lines indicated the blind shadows.
• I then used a different type of paint brush such as the spray paint to paint blood
on the floor. I made sure the blood was visible by making it black.
8.
9. Process
• Lastly it was time to add the required information. I firstly added a serif font to tell
the title “edge of insanity”. I dragged this in between the window and the light as
it filled the odd amount of black space. I made it white contrasting with the other
colours for it to stand out.
• I used a billing block template and filled it with the correct information related to
my film. I filled it with fake producers and my cast names. I edited the block to look
professional and filled another odd space of black, typically at the bottom.
• Finally I added my last titles which was the cast names above the window. I used
the same serif font as the title but shrunk and stretched them to look neat.
10.
11. Process
• This segment of the film is mostly situated with Arthurs bathroom routine.
• The first two shots of the door and bedroom was done with steady cam.
These were sped up In post to make the intro quicker and less dragged.
These shots have a separate colour graded this with an adjustment layer in
order to make rooms look very bland expressing Arthurs character.
• The next few shots are a mix of close ups and medium shots done with a
tripod.. This is to express Arthurs attention to detail. Each shot is very
quick in order to suit a trailer. This has a separate colour graded it on
adjustment layer in order to lower the highlights and enhance the blue to
portray Arthurs cold heart. The last shot is done with a steady cam to
execute a transition to the next scene.
• The dialogue was recorded with a tadcam dr-05 with my actor reading a
script narrating the intro.
• As well as the dialogue, I downloaded a royalty free piano song and played
it over his morning routine.
12.
13. Process
• This segment carries on the routine but with cooking breakfast in my
kitchen.
• The transition shot with the steady cam is carried over to a new location
which is the kitchen. In between the two stead cam shots I added a black
out transition to make it look more smooth. I made sure the steady cam
follows Arthur washing his hand to picking up the knife making for a
decent establishing shot.
• The segment is again shot quickly in order to make fit in the trailer. This
time I tried making it with a rhythm so that it captures Arthurs liking to
cooking.
• The colour grading on another separate adjustment layer is done with a
more orange hue to convey Arthurs Happiness when cooking
• The last shot is another track shot with the steady cam similar to the
bathroom transition.
14.
15. Process
• We move location outside of lounge room one in York college.
• This overall segment carries on the routine however it is broken when the Jack
arrives.
• I start it with quick shots similar to before keeping the rhythm of the routine still
using the tripod. I make sure that when Arthur is taking a bite, that the shot is
somewhat longer to the be interrupted by Jack. When jack appears the shots are
much more longer. I've had to tweak the tripod in various ways in order to fit in
places such as shortening the legs to sit on the table and record jacks face.
• This section also has a separate colour grading adjustment layer.
• The last flicker of clips has been done by using the razor tool and cropping. This is
another transition to convey how Jack has broken Arthur. The piano note is also
repeating as these clips are flickering with the use of the razor tool and
duplicating.
• Dialogue again is done with Tadcam dr-05 with James reading his lines from a
script.
16.
17. Process
• We moved location again to a forest nearby the York college
• This part of the trailer consists of four shots. the first shot of Arthur walking in
was done hand held as I was able to go very low to capture his feet. I then
paned up to reveal his bloody hand. The next shot is done with a steady cam
slowly zooming out of Arthur. The next steady cam shot was to track Jack
running behind a tree. The final shot is done hand held of his face.
• This was carefully edited by using the razor to cut both the steady cam shots. I
placed the cut clips that it went back and forth to Arthur and Jack running.
This also had another colour grading adjustment layer, capturing the harsh
yellow light in-between the leaves showing how Arthur is feeling positive.
• The audio I use In this is a quiet bell sound from a royalty website whenever it
cuts to Arthur as well as heart beats from the same website.
• The fake is blood is food colouring from Tescos. I also used wipes to rap around
James arm like a bandied.
• I made sure that James was holding a bag to make it seem it had some
purpose making it look like a real scene.
18.
19. Process
• This seen is in different location but this time it in York college indoors of
the second lounge room
• The shots have come back to being quick and snappy in order to make this
scene quick. This has been recorded with a tripod.
• The colour grading again has become more blue representing Arthurs cold
behaviour.
• This is the start of a song I found from a royalty free website which gives a
good horror ambience sound.
• The dialogue was recorded with a Tadcam dr-05.
20.
21. Process
• The first four shots is recorded on the third floor.
• These shots are again very snappy and quick to fit the time limit.
• The shot with tapping of the hand was with the camera placed on the table. Every other shot
was with the tripod.
• This also has a separate colour grade adjustment layer however the footage was sensitive to
visual noise as the lighting was very harsh. I couldn’t do much to convey Arthurs feeling.
• The next clip is of a den we made in the forest. I used the steady cam to give a smooth zoom
towards it. This has the same adjustment layer as the forest chase segment. I razor tool this
clip in half to place the shot of the finger tapping in between.
• Another location shot in Acomb of Arthur limping across a street. This is Dutch angle shot
which is hand held. I place the shot in premier after another finger tapping clip. This time
with a very harsh colour graded adjustment layer. The colour graded adjustment layer for the
Dutch angle shot is slightly blue to convey Arthurs cold emotion.
• For the last clip of this segment I record in another location which is in Sam's room. I made
use of his bloody see through sheets in his room and record Arthur sat screaming. I use a
steady cam to zoom out of Arthur. This clip is places after another finger tapping clip. This has
the same adjustment layer as the Dutch angle clip.
• I use many sounds to make this segment uncomfortable such as the horror music played
from the last segment. A drum beat created from garage band to convey the deep tapping
sound as well as a high pitched buzzing sound found from a royalty free site.
22.
23. Process
• The screen goes blank and I repeat the quote “infact I want you dead” by
duplicating the audio.
• The first few clips of are from the forest chase segment but is a reveal of what
happens next. I use a steady cam to track Jack sitting down and I then use a
tripod to get the shot of Arthurs hand coming in. the sharp sound effect is
downloaded from a royalty free website. This has the same adjustment layer
as the forest segment at the start.
• The new two shots are in another location witch is Sam's garden. I use a
steady cam upside down, getting as low as possible to track Arthur dragging
the axe. The blood on the axe is a different type of food colouring which is
more thick and can stick to metal. My regular food colouring easily runs off it.
The next shot is another steady cam track making sure I get a good lens flair.
The colour grading layer is again has a usage of orange and yellow hues to
capture Arthurs positivity.
• During this scene I have repeated some of Arthurs narrative as well as the
piano from the start by duplicating the audio files.
24.
25. Process
• This last scene reverts back to Arthurs and Jacks first meeting. However the
shot with Arthur turning his head and introducing himself was reshot.
These two shots are done with a tripod. I tried my best getting the colour
grading to the look the same as however the sun was brighter at the time
causing it to look a lot more orange.
• The final clip of them handshaking is the same shot as to when Jack held his
hand out at the beginning. It has just been cut in half and separated.
• The sharp sound effect from Arthurs hand jump scare is used again but this
time I reversed the audio to use it when Arthur turns his head.
• The dialogue again is used with the Tadcam dr-05.
• For last hand shake I crop and single out one note from the piano song.
