6. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRUGS & MEDICINES
• Medicine is a substance or preparation used in treating disease, while drug is
any chemical compound either synthesized in laboratory or of plant, animal or
marine origin which is intended to bring change in normal physiological functions
of body. All medicines are drugs but all drugs are not medicines.
7. USES OF DRUGS:
• Drug use, use of drugs for psychotropic rather than medical purposes. Among
the most common psychotropic drugs are opiates (opium, morphine, and heroin),
hallucinogens (LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin), barbiturates, cocaine,
amphetamines, tranquilizers, and cannabis.
• Some drugs are helpful when used properly: they fall into the category of
medicines. Otherdrugs may have a harmful effect on the body. The purpose of
today's activity is for students to begin to understand how different drugscan
affect the body. Students learn about different drugs and how they affect the
body.
