CAPITAL
The capital of Sikkim is Gangtok. Gangtok is famous for its scenic beauty. The temperature of
Gangtok is around 23 degree centigrate in Summer and around 6 degree centigrate during
winter.
The population of Gangtok is around 50,000.
The principle language in Gangtok as in other parts of the region is Nepali.

FOOD
Sikkim has its own unique dietary culture with specific cuisine and food recipes. In the Sikkim
Himalayas traditional foods are an integral part of the dietary culture of the various ethnic groups
of people consisting of the Nepalese, Bhutias and Lepchas. Rice is the staple food. Meat and
dairy products are also consumed depending on availability.
CROPS
Maize, paddy, wheat, barley and buck wheat are the main cereals grown in Sikkim.
Sikkim has the largest area and the highest production of large cardamom in India.
Paddy is another important crop of Sikkim. Paddy is a crop mainly of river valleys. Paddy is a
summer crop
Wheat and barley are winter crops.
Cardamom, oranges and apples constitute an important part of Sikkim's trade with other parts of
the country.
DRESS
The male Lepcha wears a dress called a "pagi" made of cotton, which is stripped. The female
Lepcha wear a two piece dress.
The traditional dress of the male member is known as the "Bakhu" which is a loose cloak type
garment with full sleeves. The ladies dress consists of a silken "Honju" which is a full sleeve
blouse and a loose gown type garment. The ladies are very fond of heavy jewelry made of pure
gold.
