2. Why UW-Stevens Point joined RM2N
• Strong program in physical and natural
sciences with a tradition of faculty-student
collaborative research
• Paper Science and Engineering program
- students are prepared for an engineering career in
industries important to Wisconsin
- approved for a Chemical Engineering program
• Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology
(WIST)
• $13 million in grants; 34 paper and pulp mills served
through research and laboratory services
3. Paper Science and Engineering
Fastest student run paper machine in the world!
Pilot coating and laminating machine
– complete pilot line capable of
handling, film, foil and paper.
New!
20-inch pilot paper
machine and
associated plant
4. Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology
Entrepreneurial institute at UW-Stevens Point providing
• Laboratory services include paper testing, paper grade development,
pulping and bleaching studies, coating and lamination piloting, and
related services that support the paper and packaging industries.
• Analyses such as ion chromatography for carbohydrates, organic acids
and alcohols, and our fermentation lab performs experimental trials.
• Research includes biofuels, renewably sourced chemicals from biomass,
and value-added uses of agricultural and forestry residuals from
processing.
• Educational offerings include papermaking courses, topics in
sustainability, and annual conferences.
