Own business: Succeeded in own business for more than 20 years.
Susan founded Headline News C.C. in 2001, but has been a consultant in the communications industry for
more than 25 years; writing, designing and managing publications, informational material and marketing bro-
chures. As communications officer, she left the former Haggie business, now a Scaw Metals’ company, to start
her own business in 1994, operating under her maiden name, Susan Doyle Communications. She consulted to
Scaw, producing a host of its publications and marketing material, between 1994 and 2015.

MNET reporter: Susan was appointed as a reporter for the short lived MNET News called Camera 7. This
channel covered the celebrations for the Independence of Namibia in 1990, attended by Her Royal Highness,
Queen Elizabeth II (the show was called The Queen in Namibia), the 1990 New Year celebrations televised
from MNET studios in Randburg and at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and The Sinking of the Oceanus
(1991), etc. Susan presented an insert, with script writing and stand-ups, for The Queen in Namibia, and a live
stand-up from the V&A Waterfront for the on-the-spot televising of the 1990 New Year celebrations.
Volunteer, community anti-crime, anti-grime campaigns: She has successfully spearheaded campaigns for
cleaner and safer streets in the Douglasdale/Fourways to North Riding areas. She continues to uplift the areas
through ad hoc community events that she organises and publicises via print and social media. By mobilising
residents and business owners to support her anti-grime, anti-crime vision, Susan has, over the last seven
years, planted pavement gardens as a way of beautifying the environment, keeping it clean and discouraging
by-law infringements and crime.

In 2015, Susan was invited to join Future City Fourways, a non profit company formed to establish a privatised
street cleaning and security services in Fourways to reverse urban decay and reduce crime in the area. This is
currently in progress. Susan is a director of FCF and conducts the PR, communication, customer liaison and
administration for the NPC – this involves print and social media, and events.

Douglasdale Community Police Forum (CPF): Susan was asked by Douglasdale SAPS to join the CPF as•
Sector 4 chair in 2009, following her public efforts to clean up the area. As chair, Sector 4, Susan estab-
lished an anti-grime, anti-crime programme based on her belief that “Cleaner spaces are safer places”,
a term she coined and applied in every clean-up and pavement garden project she implemented.
Douglasdale Business Forum (DBF): In 2013, Susan established the DBF with six other businesses in•
Douglasdale. She is chair of the DBF. Headline News is one of the members to fund the weekly mainte-
nance of two garden pavements at the intersection of Douglas Drive and Leslie Avenue West in Douglas-
dale, planted in 2010 under Susan’s leadership when she was chair of CPF Sector 4.
