folded up into a narrow
rectangular shape, enclosing a
thin mattress. They can be
easily moved and stored
• Sofa cum bed- provide extra
seating by day and a bed by
night .
• Foldaway beds- when rooms
are let more than once in 24
hrs, for meetings by day and
bedroom at night also known
as Murphy bed

11. Care and cleaning of mattresses
• Alternately rotating and flipping the
mattress on a periodic basis
• Do not bend the mattress

• Bedding means all the bed cloth placed on

continental quilt, pillows,

• Bed sheets should be long enough to
give a good tuck in , and a good turn
over at the top to protect the blanket
and quilt from grease, newspaper
print, the base of breakfast tray
For single bed of 85 x 190 cm
sheet should be 177cmx 274cm
For double bed with size 135cmx190cm
sheet should be 238x 274cm
For king size bed with size of 182x200cm
sheet should be 274cmx 297cm
15. Pillows
• Pillow consist of various fillings, covered with a
strong closely woven materials, ticking, which
was formerly striped.
• Standard size is 48 x 73 cm
• Fillings of Pillows are:
Down, Small feathers, Rubber or Plastic
foam, Synthetic fibres, Kapok
16. Bolsters
• Bolsters are
elongated pillow
which stretch the
width used on
divans , settees,
sometime on beds but
now they are not used
on bed
• They act as a support
to arm
17. Blankets
• These are available in different sizes to fit
all standard beds.
• Wool blankets are soft, warm, and wear
well
• It should be light weight for comfort
• Colour varies from hotel to hotel
• Some prefer light colour so the guest may
be impressed by the hotel standard of
cleanliness
• Other use brown or other dark colour so
that maintenance is easier.
• They are little shorter than sheets e.g

18. Eiderdowns
• Eiderdowns are filled with down
which strictly should be from eider
duck due to expenses they are often
filled with curled feathers, man made
fibers or other materials

• Duvet are continental quilt give
warmth without excessive weight
• Filled with down or synthetic fibres
• They are used with bottom sheets

• Duvet covers are large bags of cotton or more usually

• Bedspread are used to cover the bed
during the day and where ‘turning down’ is
still done , may be removed at night,
folded and put away
• The colour and pattern must suit the décor
of the room, matching
