ABOUT INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CONFERENCES
International Student Conferences (ISC) isa nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. that facilitates the
Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) and the Korea-America Student Conference (KASC). JASC isa
student-run, academic and cultural interchange program initiated in 1934 by Japanese and American university
students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. KASC, patterned after
JASC, promotes friendship and open dialogue between the U.S. and South Korea. ISC’smission is to promote
peace by furthering mutual understanding, friendship and trust through international student interchange.
OVERVIEW OF KOREA-AMERICA STUDENT CONFERENCE (KASC)
The Korea-U.S. alliance isavital strategic relationship. As such, anew generation of leaders inbusiness,
government and academia must foster strong personal connections to ensure long-lasting bilateral ties. The
Korea-America Student Conference (KASC) builds these connections for students, training them to develop
not only leadership skills, but also agenuine understanding of one another.
Held in English, KASC competitively selects 25 Korean and 25 U.S. students from all levels of higher education
(undergraduate and graduate) for an intensive month of exploring U.S.-Korea relations indistinctive five fields of
roundtables. This year’s five roundtables topics are: Advanced Technology and Society, Business and
Communication, Environment and Global Cooperation, International Relations, and Social Justice and
Immigration. The students host roundtables, hear distinguished speakers, and undertake community service,
field trips and seminars, working toward the goals of gaining mutual trust, forming long-lasting friendships, and
fostering international peace during their lifetimes.
KASC isunique inthat students organize and implement each annual Conference. Delegates elect anExecutive
Committee at the conclusion of each Conference. The American (AEC) and Korean (KEC) Executive Commit-
tees receive guidance and financial assistance from their sponsoring organization, International Student
Conferences (ISC).
