In managing the availability of data, a potentially significant cost that is becoming more of a “must have” as opposed to a “nice to have” is a business continuity plan that supports the information availability needs of the organisation. However, traditional means of recovery, i.e. tape based recovery, can for many no longer achieve the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of the critical applications and data.
The problem of managing data will continue to grow as organisations develop and tune their appetite for online, real-time, 24x7 information availability. As the management of the primary data store builds, so does the headache of effectively managing the recovery of this information post a disruptive event.

The purpose of this presentation is to show you the benefits of Storage Replication as a Service over traditional replication offerings. You will save time and money when you integrate SRaaS and recovery. SunGard is uniquely placed to provide a truly integrated SRaaS and recovery solution.
Data needs to be replicated and restored to like for like disk. Customer will need to provision a second location Customer will need to train and provision staff to manage the replication.
In the event of disaster, when every second counts, you could save around six hours in getting your systems up and running again. That’s because instead of waiting for backup tapes to arrive, the data is already available, it just needs connecting through to your recovered environment Similar time-savings can be achieved when testing. An integrated SRaaS and recovery solution saves time and money.
SunGard installs a replication core at the customer site. The core requires a minimum of a 1Gb line for the replication of customer data and a PSTN allows SunGard to manage the on premise equipment.
Replicated data enters the SunGard facility via another replication core and then is stored within the SunGard SAN environment.
Asynchronous replication takes place 24/7 and is fully managed by SunGard personnel.
At time of invocation a snapshot of the customer data (when subscribed to) is taken in order to maintain the integrity of the original customer data. This is then fed into the SunGard recovery network where it is connected to the recovery servers. Once this goes live data can still be backed up using the customers backup solution.
Groups of servers can be restored or servers can be migrated back to the customer site one by one. A snap copy of the data can be taken at any time to ensure data integrity and protection throughout the restoration process.
Testing a DR solution is important and testing that solution with live data is important but risky as any errors could impact the production environment. The RaaS solution negates this risk by allowing a snap shot of the live data (when subscribed to) to be taken and thus the testing environment can benefit from up to date production data without interfering with the live system.
All SunGard sites around the UK are linked by the award-winning SunGard National Network
1. Data is securely stored offsite 2. Data is easily made available at point of invocation 3. You don’t need to restore the data, just the systems 4. With data replicated, if you can then replicate your servers you could potentially recover into the Cloud 5. The replication core we deploy on the customer site allows the customer to explore other services that benefit their business at no additional cost, i.e. Storage virtualisation 6. Ever growing volumes of data put massive pressure on recovery and achieving the required RTO. Replicating data off site means this is no longer a concern. 7. Whether you replicate 1TB or 101TB, SunGard’s infrastructure has been designed to ensure your business benefits from a consistent level of service, no matter what. SunGard has invested in a scaleable infrastructure that gives us the capacity and capability to meet your business needs.

IT Hound whitepaper based on results from Survey Prospects seem to use a variety of storage media And most importantly for us, over 70% of people surveyed have multi storage vendor solutions within their estate Most have a need to back up daily, with some several times a day 58% of people do already replicate their data and have given details of how 81% of people have had to complete a full or partial recovery of data from backup This took anywhere from minutes to 1 week!
