3. WHAT IS TRANSFORMER ?
Transformer is a STATIC electric device, which transforms
electrical energy from one electrical circuit by means of
common magnetic field without changing frequency.
Transformer is the most common
efficient electrical device made, it
can raise or lower the voltage.
4. Principle Of Operation
Transformer works on the
principle of mutual induction of
two coils. When current in the
primary coil is changed the flux
linked to the secondary coil also
changes.
Consequently an EMF is induced
in the secondary coil.

TYPES OF TRANSFORMER
11. AUTO TRANSFORMERS
An autotransformers is an
electrical transformer with only
one winding The “auto” prefix
refers to the single coil acting on
itself and not to any kind of
automatic mechanism.

13.
14. 1. A transformer in almost all A.C. operations e.g.
2. In voltage regulators for T.V., refrigerator, computer, air
conditioner etc.
3. A step down transformer is used for welding purposes.
4. Normally, at the generating station, we use a step up
5. transformer, which raises A.C. voltage to about 132000V. Thin
line wires carry the power to the receiving station. The voltage is
reduced in steps using a number of step down transformers. For
the domestic consumers, the voltage is 220V, 50Hz.
