It’s been more than two years, since the successful launch of National Deworming Campaign in
India to improve the well-being, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life. Its
expanding reach has touched more than 27 states in August 2016; with its previous coverage of
more than 89 million children in the year 2015.
As the World Health Organization stats reveal; India shares the highest burden of STH burden
in the world; with more than 220 million children under its arm. STH stands for Soil-transmitted
helminth; which are parasitic infections result from poor sanitation and hygiene conditions, and
are easily transmitted among the children when in contact with infested soil. The infestation can
cause anaemia, under-nutrition, and ultimately leading to impaired mental and physical
development.
In February 2015, the Government of India, Health and Welfare Ministry launched nation–wide,
National Deworming Day which is a school based initiative to deworm all children between the
ages of 1 and 14 years enrolled in all schools, private schools, anganwadi centers, unregistered
and out of school children.
Being the most cost effective; effective and easy to implement program or means of increasing
school attendance; it leverages on the existing school infrastructure, available resources for its
execution; where prime focus is levied on timely drug procurement and management, multi-level
trainings of national/state health and education representatives, locally appropriate awareness
campaigns communicated through a wide variety of media channels, stakeholders mobilization
and effective monitoring.
The next level advancement of the program is being planned pan India on 10 February, 2017;
targeting the ever increasing drug intake of Albendazole 400 mg.

3. For organizing a small meeting in an external venue for state representatives from the health
department. You are incharge of stage setup and participant kits. List some of the major tasks
you will need to do to accomplish this.
Major Task wouldbe:
 Finalising the listing of State Health representative to be called for the gathering;
followed by the formal invitation and persistent follow up till they confirm their availability.
 Appropriate Venue availability under the budget and time effectiveness.
 Stage set up would require vendor management; logistics like furniture (table, chairs,
mice and so on); flower decoration, momento as token of appreciation etc.
