Contours And Its Uses
1.
2. CONTOUR-: An imaginary line on the ground
surface joining the equal elevation is known
as contour.
3. Contour Map is used in order to select the
most economical and suitable sites.
4. It helps to locate the alignments of the
canals so that it can follow a ridge line.
5. It helps to mark the alignments of roads and
railways so that the quantity of earthwork
both in cutting and filling should be
minimum.
6. It helps for getting the information about the
ground whether it is flat, undulating or
mountainous.
7. It helps to find the capacity of reservoir and
volume of earthwork especially in
mountainous region.
8. It helps us to trace out the given grade of the
particular route.
9. It helps us to locate the physical features of
the ground such as pond depression, steep or
small slopes.
10. So by this it is clear that the contouring and
contour map plays a vital role in for any types
of engineering work. So it is important for us
to gain more knowledge in this field so as to
serve in coming future.
