6 responses needed each set of 2 has its own set of instructions Guided Response: Consider ways in which you might like to interact with your peers. For example, what similarities or differences do you observe regarding how your peers perceive culture? Can you elaborate on the examples shared by your peers with your own examples or insight? Please be courteous and adhere to the rules of respectful engagement throughout your replies. MONICA’S POST: I used to think that culture was the values and beliefs of a group of people. But our text helps to understand what culture is. According to our text “culture is defined as the relatively specialized lifestyle of a group of people that is passed on from one generation to the next through communication not through genes” (Devito, J.A., 2016, Sec. 2.1). In order to understand culture we can look at values, beliefs, language, and their way of communicating. We must look at the differences from culture to culture such as is it individualistic or collectivist orientation, the power structure, masculinity and femininity, their tolerance for ambiguity, orientation and indulgence and restraint. (Devito, J.A., 2016). All of these factors influence communication. “One reason why culture is so important is that interpersonal competence is culture specific, what proves effective in one culture may prove ineffective in another” (Devito, J.A., 2016, Sec. 2.1). We may have certain attitudes about things based on the culture we were raised in. In order to communicate effectively these attitudes and beliefs must be set aside. We have to have an open mind and see things from others perspectives. I was raised in a family that instilled good morals and values in me, I am a spiritual person not a religious one and I find all religions have one thing in common putting others needs before our own. I see everyone as my equal and have a positive outlook on life. I am mindful and considerate of others perspectives. Cultural orientation is important for interpersonal communication when working as a human service professional for many reasons. First what is effective in one culture may be ineffective in another. Understanding the values that other cultures hold helps to promote effective communication. Understanding the religious beliefs of others is beneficial as well. For example if I was working with a client with SUD who was an Atheist and told them to look into spirituality or religion to help them find sobriety this might be offensive to them. So knowing their religious beliefs would be helpful in communicating with this client. The more we understand other cultures the better we will be at interpersonal communication with those individuals. References Devito, J.A. (2016). The interpersonal communication book (14th ed) Retreived from https://content.ashford.edu TAMEKA’S POST: Culture is a set of values, beliefs, and attitudes (DeVito, 2019). 7 What are texts and signs?* * * * In this chapter we consider the uses of media in: ■ ■'i What is representation? What is the relationship between representation and power? How does representation work as a social process? • Making sense of social reality • Crafting and mediating identities and social life • Managing power relationships. tfimWWW MATTERS BECAUSE HOW WE UNDERSTAND THE WORLD AFFECTS HOW WE ACT TN THE WORLD. MLCIA ANDSCXIETY REPRESENTATION AND POWER 44 i Representation is the social process of making and exchanging meaning (Hall 1997). Media do not simply reflect or mirror reality. Media are social processes through which people interact with each other to construct a view of reality. These social interactions unfold between people with different levels of access to economic, cultural and symbolic resources, institutions and rituals. By social construction of reality, we mean that reality as we understand it is produced out of social relationships between people. There is a real world out there, with real material things in it and events that actually happen, but we can only come to understand that world out of the social process of interacting with each other. There is no understanding of reality outside our social interactions and cultural practices. The ‘re’ prefix in representation is important. It is a process of re-presenting reality to others. Representations are social productions: their meaning depends on who creates and circulates them, the cultural schema within which that circulation takes place, and who receives them. Some people have more power to shape not only particular meanings, but also the contexts within which meanings are produced, distributed and received. Media representations shape how people think about and act in the world. Representations also have significant affective dimensions. They anticipate, construct and amplify how we feel about things. They reinforce or challenge our attitudes. They arouse our emotions: fear, passion, anxieties. Representation is not simply a rational process of creating and circulating inert bits of information. The question is not always about whether or not representations are accurate, but how they subtly frame events in ways that position individuals in the social order. We are interested in how representations mediate relations between people. Relations between people are complex and messy, and are constituted as much by how we feel, and our relative level of power towards each other, as they are by empirical facts. Representation is a process embedded in how we make sense of the world and in doing so it shapes the world. Representation does this subtly and over a long period of time. Images and narratives do not have meaning on their own. They only become meaningful in relation to other images and narratives that have preceded them or that they are produced in relation to. As groups of people attempt to ‘fix’ particular re.

As disciples of Christ, we are called to witness to the joy of the Gospel, but that involves awareness of our own digital authenticity as well as listening to the needs of humanity today expressed in and through social media platforms. How we navigate the media ecosystem can affect our pursuit of “the good life” along with our missional outreach to those on the digital existential peripheries. Being authentic and responsible disciples of Christ requires the skill of media mindfulness. This methodology is built on the foundation of critical inquiry, bringing one's values and the virtues into conversation with the media messages. Virtues are acquired habits for the good of our whole selves that lead to happy living. We will discuss the virtues needed to engage creatively and constructively within the digital marketplace and the spiritual support we can give for people to reflect on their digital interactions.

Bala’s Post: Trait Masculine Feminine Build relationships based on trust ü Coach and mentor others ü Culturally competent ü Strategic thinker ü High level of confidence ü Problem-solver ü Risk-taker ü Building relationships based on trust is a feminine. A feminine response is usually to keep it on a personal level with a small group or to give it away to a larger group, thereby avoiding the responsibility of working through the relationship. The men who have been abused in the past by women have often grown up feeling like failures (Kimmel, 2018). If you notice that you do not have a lot of female friends, you may want to reflect on why this is so and what you might need to do differently in order to develop friendships with women. Men are naturally competitive, aggressive and competitively intolerant. It is inherent in them to be driven to win, and for the competition to produce the winning action. Women, on the other hand, naturally collaborate and cooperate in a more inclusive fashion. It is inherent in them to be more inclusive and to build a world in which all can win. The Feminine energy is not a “bad” energy. It is the energy of Creation. It is the source of life. It is the energy that brings forth children, nurtures them, and teaches them how to be good. There are some times when I must not have the strategic thinking of the Masculine. This can be problematic because strategic thinking is an activity of Masculine. Sometimes we need to have an idea, a strategy, and move on to the next strategic decision. Not today. It seeks and exploits the essential unity of all things to establish itself in the world. One must see that in man, the masculine and feminine are of the same essence and are identical. A high level of confidence is a masculine aspect that's very useful in the world, in that you can be very assertive, you're not easily intimidated (Swim et al., 2020). So when I say that confidence is a masculine virtue, one way to think about it is that you've got feminine and masculine on both ends. It's a continuum, and at one end is confidence and at the other end is a man with a lot of feminine aspects. A risk taker is a person, who wants to overcome his issues by taking risks, but in the long run it causes problems. Problem solver is the ability to identify any problem in its simplest form and solving it. The family protection action plan might be anticipated in the article as it may not much more effect the global business intersect. References Kimmel, M. S. (2018).
