Commercial Construction: How BIM Saves You Money

  1. 1. Commercial Construction: How BIM Saves You Money Brought to you by Storee Construction Co.
  2. 2. What is BIM? Building Information Modeling is a digital tool used to plan and manage construction projects. BIM creates a virtual representation of a project that helps a general commercial contractor collaborate with designers, architects and owners.
  3. 3. What is BIM? BIM is a technology that goes beyond 2D and 3D renderings because it incorporates all aspects of planning in a single digital file, allowing teams to see an accurate model of the completed structure. Problems can be anticipated and solved while the project is in the planning stages.
  4. 4. How can BIM save you money? Too many construction projects blow the budget. Change orders and unanticipated challenges cause your bottom line to bleed. BIM takes much of the uncertainty out of planning and building. The rendering of the completed project is so accurate and realistic, that problems can be seen and solved before they ever threaten your budget.
  5. 5. How can BIM save you money? Besides anticipating problems, BIM allows for an accurate estimate of materials and costs. If a project starts to exceed the budget, changes can be made during planning. BIM may even allow projects to come in under budget by eliminating waste.
  6. 6. BIM saves time. BIM allows real-time collaboration. Plans don’t progress in a linear fashion, moving from one specialist to the next and then the next. Instead, team members all have access to the models, contributing as the project develops. Coordination of teams means there’s less time spent revising and reworking plans as various designers make disparate contributions.
  7. 7. Future savings. When new commercial construction is complete, owners and managers are left with a useful, accurate model of the facility. The model helps managers minimize the costs of operations. With a BIM system, managers can pinpoint every feature in a building. Where are the HVAC systems? How can the roof be reached? How many catwalks are in the facility? It’s all there in the model. Even maintenance schedules for equipment can be managed with BIM. Image via BSRIA Inc.
  8. 8. When it’s time to upgrade a facility, BIM will integrate the existing building’s data with the proposed modifications. Simulations show how the old and new will coexist. Storee Construction uses BIM for commercial and industrial builds. Our teams work with you from conception to completion.
