initiatives, innovative research, and many other
programs listed in the Catalog of Federal Domestic
Assistance (CFDA).
The Grant Lifecycle
The grant process follows a linear lifecycle that includes creating
the funding opportunity, applying, making award decisions, and
successfully implementing the award.

Eligibility
 Applicants need to have proven experience of working to improve
their communities locally, regionally or at a national level and be
able to show evidence of their achievements. Applicants must be
aged between 18 and 29 throughout 2018; your date of birth must
fall between 1st January 1989 – 1st January 2000;
 Applicants must be citizens of and working in a Commonwealth
country or citizens of an Overseas Territories (of a Commonwealth
Member).
 Applicants need to demonstrate evidence of their leadership
qualities.
 All applicants need to be supported by a suitable referee (a
professional in one of the following occupations; a teacher or
counsellor; a registered physician or nurse; a church or community
leader; social worker or family services; or business leader). Referees
must not be related to you.
 Priority will be given to individuals who have overcome challenges to
achieve their goals.

2. Intafact Hero’s Foundation Kickstart
Business Grant
 The competition is open to Nigerians between the ages 18 to 35
years who live and have their businesses in the following states:
Abia, Anambra, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu and Imo states.
 Applicants must be at least 18 and at most 35 years with valid
identification (e.g National I.D; Drivers License; International
Passport; Voters Registration, etc) as at the last day of the
application period.
 He or she must be willing to operate the business on a full-time
basis.
 Should have an innovative business idea in need of a startup
capital.
 Or already have an existing small businesses needing capital to

3. Youth Enterprise Conference Plus N5m
Small Business Grant
 7 Young and Enterprising Nigerians Come Together In One
Place To Teach You How They Built Their Businesses And
How You Can Copy Their Success.
 The “Youth Enterprise Conference” is an annual conference
held every March 31st, 2017 where I invite some of the most
successful young business people to tell Nigerian youths how
they started their business and also teach them how they can
do the same.
 One of the highlights of the event is that 50 small
business owners will go home with N100,000 each.

4. Sterling Bank Youth Innovative
Entrepreneurship Development Programme
 YIEDP stands for Youth Innovative Entrepreneurship
Development Programme. The Programme is aimed at
harnessing the latent entrepreneurial spirit among the
teeming youths by providing timely and affordable loans to
implement their business ideas

5. UNAOC Youth Solidarity Fund for
Innovative Youth Projects (USD 25,000 Grants)
 The Youth Solidarity Fund (YSF) supports youth-led
organizations that foster peaceful and inclusive societies by
providing direct funding to outstanding projects promoting
intercultural and interfaith dialogue. It awards grants (up to
USD 25,000) to selected projects that demonstrate
innovative approaches to intercultural or interfaith dialogue
and advance the mission of UNAOC.
Eligible
•Be a membership-based youth-led organization;
•Be youth-led: a majority of the positions and decision-
making roles within the organization are held by women and
men between the ages of 18 and 35;
•Be a non-governmental organization (with the exception of
national youth councils) registered in the country of
operation as a charity, trust, foundation or association;

6. John Paul Usman Award for Civic
Leadership
 The U.S. Embassy Abuja Public Affairs Section (PAS) announces a
notice of funding opportunity for the John Paul Usman Award for Civic
Leadership.
 The purpose of this grant is to memorialize the late John Paul Usman,
2016 Mandela Washington Fellow, by funding project(s) submitted by
YALI Network members from Nigeria focusing on his areas of interest:
 Children’s rights issues
 Peace building.

7. H & M Foundation Global Change Award
2016 (€1 million Grant)
 The Global Change Award is an innovation challenge,
initiated by non-profit H&M Foundation in 2015. By
catalyzing early innovations that can accelerate the
shift from a linear to a circular fashion industry, the
aim is to protect the planet and our living conditions.
Benefit
 A € 1.000.000 grant, shared by five winners. Which will be distributed
by the public through an online vote.

9. Diamond Bank Building Entrepreneurs
Today BET6
 The Building Entrepreneurs Today (BET) is a programme
designed to support budding entrepreneurs. Every year, 50
entrepreneurs are selected from the pool of the numerous
applications received and these entrepreneurs undergo a six
(6) months intensive entrepreneurial/business training. At
the end of the training period, the Top five (5) Entrepreneurs
are awarded financial grants as seed capital for taking their
business to the next level.

10. Apply for U.S. Consulate General
Lagos Grant/Funding Opportunity
 The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General
Lagos works with non-government organizations
(NGOs), academic institutions and individuals to
increase cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
Contingent upon availability of funds, through small
grants of less than $9,000, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria
is able to provide financial support to a specific program
or initiative that supports shared goals. Funded
projects typically range from 5,000 to 9,000 USD.
Eligible
 Applicant should be a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
that is registered, or individuals based in, the following states: Lagos,
Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa
Ibom, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Cross River.
 Applicant must give a project description and implementation plan.

11. YESGrant- Over 1000 Entrepreneurs
to Get Seed Capital
 The Young Entrepreneurs & Students Grant (YESGrant)
is targeted at Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 40
and will run in five cycles over five years.
 The main objectives of the programme are to create jobs
through young entrepreneurs and encourage high-
impact Research & Development programmes that add
value and lasting positive change to the Nigerian
economy.
 The Entrepreneur YESGrant is a grant to your
business and NOT A LOAN.
 To apply for the grant, the owner of the business
applying must be a Nigerian between the ages of 18
and 40 and must be a registered member of the
Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPF).

12. SABMiller Hero’s Foundation
Kickstart Programme
It is aimed at in-stilling a culture of
entrepreneurship among youth in the South Eastern
Nigeria by encouraging them to develop their big
ideas into sustainable businesses or expand their
existing businesses through the provision of
material and financial support.
Eligibility
 The competition is open ONLY to Nigerians of 18 to 35 years who live or have
their business within the South East region.
 Applicants must be at least 18 and at most 35 years with valid identification
(e.g National I.D; Drivers Licence; International Passport; Voters
Registration, etc) as at the last day of the application period.
 He or she must be willing to operate the business on a full-time basis.

13. Commonwealth Foundation Grants
Programme for Civil Society Organizations
 With more than 2.3 billion citizens, the
Commonwealth provides a potentially huge pool of
ideas for advancing societies. The Commonwealth
Foundation’s grants help civil society organisations
get their ideas across to policymakers.

14. Amplify Change Opportunity Grant
 Amplify Opportunity Grant is intended to help groups try out
new ideas, implement their plans or make the most of
circumstances where there may be a good chance to bring
about some sort of positive change.
 Amplify Change supports the energy and ideas of young
people, and support their role in ensuring the success of the
new global development agenda that connect to their priority
theme areas.

 International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs)
and UN agencies are not eligible to apply for

Benefit
Opportunity grants can be up to a
maximum of EUR10,000. There is no lower
limit, it is possible to apply for less, but
EUR10,000 is the maximum.
16. Tony Elumelu Foundation
Entrepreneurship Program
 Tony Elumelu Foundation has $100 million for 10,000 African entrepreneurs.
This will continue to be available for another seven to eight years. If you are in
agriculture, fashion and design, light manufacturing, ICT, and solid minerals,
among others, then apply for the on-going Tony Elumemu fund. You can be
lucky to be one of 1,000 entrepreneurs to be shortlisted.
 Through the Elumelu fund, Momarr Mass Taal, the CEO of Tropingo Foods in
The Gambia, who got $5,000 seed capital in 2015, turned his enterprise into a
$1.2 million revenue business.

 Business must be 0-3 years’ old
 Applicants must be at least 18 and a legal resident
or citizen of an African country
 The fund expects that the 10,000 start-ups and young
businesses selected from across Africa will ultimately
create one million new jobs and add $10 billion in
annual revenues to Africa’s economy.
 The TEEP Fund focuses on citizens and legal residents
of all 54 African countries. Applications can be made by
any for-profit business based in Africa in existence for
less than three years, including new business ideas.

17. GroFin Fund
 GroFin, a development financier, has committed over $500 million to funding
Nigerian micro, small and medium business (MSMEs) across the country.
 The firm has five different types of fund:
 the Aspire Nigeria Fund,
 the Growth Africa Fund,
 the Small Growing Business Fund,
 the Aspire Small Business Fund and
 the Aspire Growth Fund.

 The Aspire Nigeria Fund, the Growth Africa Fund and the Small
Growing Business Fund cater for all parts of Nigeria except the Niger
Delta.
 The Aspire Small Business Fund provides a minimum of $100,000
and a maximum of $1.5 million to SMEs in Nigeria.
 The Aspire Small Business Fund and the Aspire Growth Fund cater
for the Niger Delta.
 The Aspire Small Business Fund provides between $10,000 and
$100,000 to small business owners in the oil-rich region
 the Aspire Growth Fund frees between $100,000 and $3 million to
businesses to stimulate growth in the area.
GroFin provides its funds mostly for a maximum of six years
18. Shell LiveWire
 LiveWIRE is a youth enterprise development programme
supported by the SPDC JV. The programme aims to
inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-
35 to start their own businesses through the provision
of training and finance for young entrepreneurs.

19. Lagos State Employment Trust Fund
 The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (“LSETF” or “the Fund”),
was established by The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund Law
2016 to provide financial support to residents of Lagos State,
for job, wealth creation and to tackle unemployment. LSETF
serves as an instrument to inspire the creative and innovative
energies of all Lagos residents and reduce unemployment across
the State. The Fund has the mandate to directly invest ₦25Billion
in helping Lagos residents grow and scale their Micro Small and
Medium Enterprises (“MSMEs”) or acquire skills to get better jobs.

20. Social Intervention Fund of FG
A total of N6 billion was allocated under the Social Intervention Fund of
the 2017 budget.
The criteria for accessing the fund include:
 Membership of a business organisation.
 The fund is for artisans and owners of micro businesses.
 The artisans of business owners can only access a maximum of N100, 000
at three percent interest rate on a year tenor.
21. Bank Of Industry Funds
If there is anywhere entrepreneurs can get cheap or single-digit
funds (often at nine percent lending rate), it’s from the Bank of
Industry (BoI).
BoI
 The BoI has a number of funds that entrepreneurs of all levels can
access.
 First is the Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF), which is meant
for serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
 Candidates are allowed to submit their business ideas, which are then
reviewed by a team of experts. The NYSC members whose ideas are
marketable and bankable are then selected, trained for four weeks and
then given between N500,000 and N2 million.

Secondly, is the Cottage Agro Processing (CAP) Fund for small and
medium agro processors;
Thirdly, Nolly Fund for players in the Nollywood industry, as well as
Fashion Fund for designers and other players in the value chain.
 the bank has other matching and managed funds,
including a fund for the automotive industry.
 Through 122 business development experts,
entrepreneurs can access funds easily.
 It is also easy to access some of the bank’s
products through its website.
 The bank has a N5 billion fund from Africa’s
richest man Aliko Dangote to finance SMEs at a
single digit rate.
Criteria
 The general criterion for accessing these funds is the capacity to
present a bankable and viable business plan.
 The entrepreneur should be clear on where he wants to be in the
near future, and must also be able to describe the market for his
or her products.

22. Oxfam
 Oxfam has a number of funds for Nigerian
entrepreneurs.
 Oxfam, an international confederation of charitable
organizations focuses on the: alleviation of global
poverty and disbursed €100 million to high-impact
SMEs in Nigeria through Nextzon.

23. The Next Titan Show
 With Heritage Bank as its lead sponsor, The Next Titan is a
reality show for entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
 It provides a platform for entrepreneurs to meet, interact,
juxtapose ideas.
 It is aired on Silverbird and TVC and Channels. It is known
as Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneurial reality show.

the Caribbean, the Middle East and North

24. Voice’s Nigeria Empowerment
Grants
 This is an opportunity for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs),
community based organisations, informal groups (preferably group
of the target beneficiaries of Voice- see Voice target beneficiaries on
our country page here) who have been able to identify specific
issue(s) affecting them (where the application is brought by the
target beneficiaries of Voice/by their representatives and are
willing to work together on such issue etc.
 This is an opportunity for such CSOs, group of persons/bodies
who have been doing wonderful work but have not had the
opportunity to access grants; e.g. organizations based in their rural
areas providing interventions at grass root level.

 Empowerment grants are small grants of €5,000 up to €25,000 for

  • 3. A grant is a way the government/individuals fund your ideas and projects to provide public services and stimulate the economy. Grants support critical recovery initiatives, innovative research, and many other programs listed in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA).
  • 4. The Grant Lifecycle The grant process follows a linear lifecycle that includes creating the funding opportunity, applying, making award decisions, and successfully implementing the award.

  • 7. 1. The Queen’s Young Leaders Awards Scheme • This unique, life-changing Award is comprised of a tailored package of training and mentoring.   • 8. Eligibility  Applicants need to have proven experience of working to improve their communities locally, regionally or at a national level and be able to show evidence of their achievements. Applicants must be aged between 18 and 29 throughout 2018; your date of birth must fall between 1st January 1989 – 1st January 2000;  Applicants must be citizens of and working in a Commonwealth country or citizens of an Overseas Territories (of a Commonwealth Member).  Applicants need to demonstrate evidence of their leadership qualities.  All applicants need to be supported by a suitable referee (a professional in one of the following occupations; a teacher or counsellor; a registered physician or nurse; a church or community leader; social worker or family services; or business leader). Referees must not be related to you.  Priority will be given to individuals who have overcome challenges to achieve their goals.

Benefits •Mentoring As a Queen’s Young Leader you will be allocated a mentor with relevant experience and expertise who will support you over the course of the year to continue and develop your work. •Online learning Online learning will be provided with materials relevant to your area of interest, as well as serving as a place for you to meet and share experiences and knowledge with other Queen’s Young Leaders. You’ll speak to experts from around the world and learn from case studies of other global young leaders. •One-week residential programme in the UK The 60 Award winners will have the opportunity to meet with inspiring people and visit organisations in the UK that have expertise in areas such as media and communications, social action and advocacy. •During this week, Awards will be presented by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham

  • 11.  The competition is open to Nigerians between the ages 18 to 35 years who live and have their businesses in the following states: Abia, Anambra, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu and Imo states.  Applicants must be at least 18 and at most 35 years with valid identification (e.g National I.D; Drivers License; International Passport; Voters Registration, etc) as at the last day of the application period.  He or she must be willing to operate the business on a full-time basis.  Should have an innovative business idea in need of a startup capital.  Or already have an existing small businesses needing capital to ELIGIBILITY

Youth Enterprise Conference Plus N5m Small Business Grant  7 Young and Enterprising Nigerians Come Together In One Place To Teach You How They Built Their Businesses And How You Can Copy Their Success.  The “Youth Enterprise Conference” is an annual conference held every March 31st, 2017 where I invite some of the most successful young business people to tell Nigerian youths how they started their business and also teach them how they can do the same.
