3 topics
• Their view of the creation story
• Their gods
• Their form for worship
Creation Story creation pic
• Those a part of the religion believe that the gods pervaded into
nature as supernatural powers and which they were personified
into gods themselves
• After they were given certain attributes and names they were
different gods then.
• There is multiple forms of how things came to be and depend on
who told it.
The gods and demi-gods
• There are four gods: Kū, Lono, Kane, and
Kanaloa
• Demigods there are a couple and one of
them is Māui
Māui from Disney
Movie Moana

The gods
• From time to time the Hawaiian gods would take form in either
animals or humans or in an idol statue and play a major role in
peoples lives
The gods
• They are seen in Hawaiian
history as chiefs that are
dwelling in the heavens or
the far lands and they come
to a certain area that are
sacred in worship as visitors
or immigrants.
• The appearance of the
natural phenomena that they
are known by and their form
of color or tradition or
custom.

The gods
• Any god can take the form of any object in nature or person
• Interesting fact, the title ’kupua’ is given to the child of a god
when born into the family and he will be seen a part of his life as
the transformation that occurs in whichever natural object it is
either plant or animal.
• The gods are ‘preternaturally’ ugly and not good or strong and
beautiful
• After they die then they are known as an ‘amakua’
Forms of Worship
• The worship is different based on the different area or location it
is done as. Some areas of culture do it differently.
• Like different gods are dealt with in different areas
Forms of Worship
• They did things such as religious ceremonies
• They also have prayers to maintain on a good side of the spirits
• Those in this religion also believed that being in and around
nature was like they were in close distance to the gods like being
near the sea or by a mountain.
Forms of Worship
• They also had priests and they could preform rituals to win the
favor of the gods as well as the head of the household as a male
for family worship they could as well.
• In forms of repsect and out of fear the people stayed far away
from ‘kepu’ or sacred/holy things to make sure they do not offend
their god.
Forms of Worship
• They built temples for special purposes
like health, war, a hope for profitable
in the areas of farming and fishing, and
peace.
• They also put-up idols as well most
likely for worship reasons or sacrifce

Native hawaiian religion (Trevor)

  • 2. 3 topics • Their view of the creation story • Their gods • Their form for worship
  • 3. Creation Story creation pic • Those a part of the religion believe that the gods pervaded into nature as supernatural powers and which they were personified into gods themselves • After they were given certain attributes and names they were different gods then. • There is multiple forms of how things came to be and depend on who told it.
  • 4. The gods and demi-gods • There are four gods: Kū, Lono, Kane, and Kanaloa • Demigods there are a couple and one of them is Māui Māui from Disney Movie Moana Picture of Maui demi-god https://www.tourmaui.com/maui-demigod/
  • 5. The gods • From time to time the Hawaiian gods would take form in either animals or humans or in an idol statue and play a major role in peoples lives
  • 6. The gods • They are seen in Hawaiian history as chiefs that are dwelling in the heavens or the far lands and they come to a certain area that are sacred in worship as visitors or immigrants. • The appearance of the natural phenomena that they are known by and their form of color or tradition or custom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGqBfyQFG_g
  • 7. The gods • Any god can take the form of any object in nature or person • Interesting fact, the title ’kupua’ is given to the child of a god when born into the family and he will be seen a part of his life as the transformation that occurs in whichever natural object it is either plant or animal. • The gods are ‘preternaturally’ ugly and not good or strong and beautiful • After they die then they are known as an ‘amakua’
  • 8. Forms of Worship • The worship is different based on the different area or location it is done as. Some areas of culture do it differently. • Like different gods are dealt with in different areas
  • 9. Forms of Worship • They did things such as religious ceremonies • They also have prayers to maintain on a good side of the spirits • Those in this religion also believed that being in and around nature was like they were in close distance to the gods like being near the sea or by a mountain.
  • 10. Forms of Worship • They also had priests and they could preform rituals to win the favor of the gods as well as the head of the household as a male for family worship they could as well. • In forms of repsect and out of fear the people stayed far away from ‘kepu’ or sacred/holy things to make sure they do not offend their god.
  • 11. Forms of Worship • They built temples for special purposes like health, war, a hope for profitable in the areas of farming and fishing, and peace. • They also put-up idols as well most likely for worship reasons or sacrifce https://www.nps.gov/parkhistory/online_books/kona/history1h.htm
