2. The History of Bacău
The old borough of Bacău has a secular history with its first documentary
certification in the Middle Ages , in spite of the archeological evidence which place its
beginnings in the Neolithic.
The first documentary certification dates from 1408 , and this is the commercial
privilege given by Alexander the Kind, the ruler of Moldavia , to the merchants
from Kiev.

Precista Church
Precista Church is a historical
medieval monument built between
1490 - 1491 during the reign of
Alexandrei Voievod. The ruins were
declared a historical monument in
1973 and they are living proof of the
skillful Moldovian builders in the
XVth century.

George Bacovia Memorial House
George Bacovia , a symbolist poet, re-discovered by the critics in multiple
stylistic hypostasis, by the librarians as a precious subject of study, as well as by
the ordinary poetry lovers, is part of our existence although he passed away more
than 50 years ago.

“George Bacovia” Theatre
The Palace of Mărăşti was
inaugurated in 1929 which was
going to host a hotel, a theatre
and a cinema.
Now „George Bacovia” Theatre
develops its activity here.

The Museum of Art & History
Within the museum, the history section
exhibits ceramics from the Cucuteni
culture, Dacic tools and objects. The
art section contains remarkable
medieval masterpieces and a series of
sculptures and paintings signed by the
most representative XIXth and XXth
century romanian artists.

The Museum of Natural Sciences “Ion Borcea”
The first museum of natural sciences
in Bacău was established in 1961, as a
department of the Bacău County
Museum, and after 1990, as a distinct
county museum.
The collection of the museum
includes about 195.500 items of
ornithology, geobotany,
palaeontology, herpetology,
entomology, and aquarium.
