Foreword
The Internet of Things (IoT) opens up great opportunities for all
industries. Our aim at Cisco is to bring the best of the technology
world in an ecosystem of open innovation together with our
partners in order to maximize these opportunities.
The IoT is an area in which there is an impressive amount of
industry collaboration. One vendor cannot address all of the
IoT challenges with one solution. This is exactly why programs
like Cisco Entrepreneurs in Residence and ChallengeUp! are
so valuable. It brings together collective thinkers in an effort to
address collective challenges.
As organizations strive to become digital, by adopting and

Co-Innovation in EMEAR
Cisco Entrepreneurs in Residence (Cisco EIR) is a 6-month startup
incubation program that supports early-stage, product-focused
entrepreneurs working on the next big ideas in the Internet
of Everything/Things (IoE/IoT), Smart Cities, Big Data/analytics,
enterprise mobility and security. We are headquartered in Silicon
Valley – with satellite programs in San Diego, Chicago, Boston
and Vienna (Austria).
Cisco offers exceptional entrepreneurs opportunities to build
strategic relationships with Cisco, co-working space, software tools,
financial support, access to VCs/experts through program events
and potential strategic funding from Cisco.

Having understood the innovation challenge and a way
to face it, three global tech players – Intel, Cisco and Deutsche
Telekom – are teaming up to address the challenges of IoT and
being a true pioneer of Open Innovation 2.0 and connecting
innovation. That joint partnership is called ChallengeUp! – an
accelerator and incubator program targeting IoT startups.
ChallengeUp! aims at helping innovative IoT startups go-to-market
faster through joint projects, mentoring, high-value networking and
corporate assets. It is an example of true pioneer Open Innovation
2.0 with bringing together startups, corporations and customers
in a new platform to perform co-opetition and building use cases

PROJECT IDEA
With Cisco/ Deutsche Telekom Connected Lights:
Using 3850 switch, ICE gateway and Waylay. Waylay
controls the lights (on/off/dimming) depending on the
weather info, motion sensors, calendar etc.
This will be used in smart buildings: The Waylay
platform controls indoor sensors, cameras and lights
connected to the switch taking into account external
sources such as weather, inside/outside temperature,
motion, calendars etc.
