To measure their performance, organizations typically use figures, such as revenue, turnover, cash flow, etc., which are the result of the business processes executed. These figures are very important, but they represent only the tip of an Iceberg. Collecting key performance indicators (KPIs) on a data-driven basis without linking them to processes is of little benefit if the figures fail to match the defined objectives. After all, it’s hard to fix things without knowing the cause of the problem. If you are able to measure your business process you are able to see below the surface and detect and analyse the hidden part of the iceberg. Like using a sonar you see much earlier when obstacles occur, things change or you are in danger. If you have your business process under control you can take corrective action before the healthy of your company is affected and before the changes affect the turnover or cash flow figures. In this example you see that the cycle time of the order process impacts the delivery reliability which affects the customer satisfaction which in turn has influence on the turnover as disappointed customers won’t buy from you any more. This means you can start taking countermeasures as soon as the cycle time exceeds a certain thresh hold, you are informed in time and you will not be surprised at the end of the month from a decreasing turnover. The dependencies of the critical success factors and the process of course depend on the strategy of a company.
What can you do with Process Intelligence: ( General Description without capabilities) Process Intelligence is not a product, it is a solution that you can use to measure and monitor your business relevant data. These automatically measured data come from your application systems and deliver a real reproduction of your company data. This allows you to measure KPIs that are linked to the operational processes with PI you are not only focused on figures such as revenue, profit and cash flow (result of the executed business process) but you can also automatically link these figures to the executed business processes. But what can you do with this knowledge? ( Analyze your business performance :) With Process intelligence, companies can use flexible and intuitive root-cause analysis that show process deficiencies as they occur. By combining the process-relevant data from multiple application systems, Process Intelligence can reconstruct the execution of each transaction from start to finish automatically (= Provide better transparency of performance ) . KPIs (such as time, cost, quality or risk) are linked to the operational processes and if they deviate from the strategic objectives, companies can discover and resolve the root cause of this deviation instantly. ( Identify issues and solve process deficiencies :) . With real-time monitoring opportunities they can even predict problems before customers are impacted ( issues can’t be triggered within the running order/process). So you have not only the opportunity to analyze historical data but also data from the real ongoing process ( Improve business flexibility and operational decision making ) . Example: For example if there is a process cycle time taking too much time you can find out how to improve by analyzing historical information (how was the performance of this process in the past), reference information (KPIs and goals) and real-time information (what is happening right now and what is this saying about trends). so you can analyze processes and find out if there are any factors that can be managed to improve. Support Strategy Alignment : A process or agility layer acts as the glue between strategy and IT. With Process Intelligence, you can measure whether you reached your corporate objectives or not and prove your corporate success. If one objective of the strategy was to improve sales efficiency, then gather and analyze a set of KPIs to see if the efficiency was really improved (such as Order to Cash Cycle time). With the result of this analysis you can prove that the strategy was implemented (prove to your management) and thus use Process Intelligence to support our Management decisions.
