3. THE ROYAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
■ King Bhumibol Adulyadej initiated a project to
develop the Pa Sak River valley and lower Chao
Phraya valley on 19 February 1989 as part of the
Maenam Pa Sak Royal Development Project.

4. OFFICIAL NAME OF PASAK DAM
■ On 20 October 1991 King Bhumibol Adulyadej gave
the dam its official name, Pa Sak Cholasit.The king
also presided over the inauguration of the dam on
25 November 1999.

5. WHYWAS PASAK DAM BUILT?
■ The PASAK river is important to
the people living in the lower
central plains suffering from water
shortages during droughts and
affected by flooding during the
rainy season. An expanded
economy and population growth
has led to a growing need for
water.

■ Apart from being a major source for agriculture,
industry and drinking water in Lop Buri and Saraburi,
the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam also helps prevent flooding on
the Pasak riverside and in Bangkok and outlying areas
of the city. Morever, the dam provides a large-scale,
fresh-water fish source and will be developed as a
major tourist attraction.
