This document discusses path decomposition techniques for trie data structures. It introduces tries, path-decomposed tries (PDTs), and dynamic path-decomposed tries (DynPDTs). It then evaluates the performance of DynPDTs with different encoding techniques (plain and bitmap) compared to other trie structures like m-Bonsai tries, Judy tries, HAT-tries, and Cedar tries on several datasets. DynPDTs with bitmap encoding outperform the other structures in most cases. The document advocates for using DynPDTs with bitmap encoding or m-Bonsai tries for path decomposition applications.
