This was the first logo of State Bank of India when it was founded on July 1st, 1955. The Banyan Tree in the logo says that the bank has strong roots and is capable of propagating and growing in all directions. Later this logo was abandoned as it invited criticism that a Banyan tree does not let any other plant grow within its space.
It was inspired by Kankaria Lake at Gujrat

PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN and BANKER TO EVERY INDIAN CAMPAIGN:
SBI believes in nurturing the pride in India. Through this campaign, they are trying to emotionally appeal the customers and position the brand as patriotic and serving the countrymen since pre-independence.
It is not required for a bank like SBI which is among the top 12 in Asia, and the top 100 banks in the world, owns the largest amount of commercial property in the country, holds deposits of Rs 3.67 lakh crore, pays a dividend of 125 per cent, and has taken over banks in Indonesia and Mauritius, to be so diffident. Campaigns like these prove the insecurity of the brand because of private banks like ICICI bank, HDFC bank etc.
SBI Card invested in this innovative technology as part of their promotion plan for the Air India SBI Card.
The strategy behind this unique installation was two-fold: 1) increasing business queries by reaching out to target consumers and decision makers at locations where the brand gets a captive audience; and 2) enhancing the brand and product imagery via a disruptive idea that uses the latest technology in an interesting manner.

Merger of 5 Associate banks-
The amalgamation of five associate banks of the State Bank of India (SBI) with the parent is the biggest merger in recent times. It will make SBI—already the country’s largest commercial lender by assets and deposits.
State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ), State Bank of Travancore (SBT), State Bank of Mysore (SBM), State Bank of Patiala and the State Bank of Hyderabad will merge with SBI.
Integration of over 70,000 employees (34 per cent of the parent’s workforce; size of business is 25 per cent of the parent’s) will be a key challenge. Cost savings on account of treasury operations, audit, and technology, among others, will lower the cost-to-income ratio in the long term.
SBI LOANS
Assets increase to Rs 37 lakh core from Rs 28 lakh core currently and SBI will get fixed assets worth Rs 4,000 crore from the books of its subsidiaries. The management expects its cost of funds to come down by 100 basis points within a year, as the subsidiaries currently have high deposit rates, less of current and savings accounts, and higher dependence on wholesale funding. Employee costs would go up by Rs 23 crore a month.
