 Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of
pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid or gas
composed of frequencies within the range of hearing
and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard or the
sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such
vibrations.
 Audible sounds:- audible sound that you can hear.
 Inaudible sounds:- inaudible sounds are sounds
that you cannot hear.
AUDIBLE SOUND
INAUDIBLE
SOUND
 The ear is an advanced and very sensitive organ of
the human body. The ear's function is to transmit and
transduce sound to the brain through the parts of
the ear: the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear.
The major task of the ear is to detect, transmit and
transduce sound.
Sound is produced when something vibrates. The
vibrating body causes the medium (water, air, etc.) ...
Vibrations in air are called traveling longitudinal waves,
which we can hear. Sound waves consist of areas of
high and low pressure called compressions and
rarefactions, respectively.
 Waves transfer’s energy
 They can be transverse or longitude
The motion of the wave is at a
right angle to the direction of
the wave .
The motion of the wave is in the
same direction as the wave.
An object makes a sound by
vibrating.
The vibration pass
through air by
making
Air molecule vibrate.
These vibration are
picked up by the ear.
AIR
MOLECULES
 Sound travels by particles vibrating. To
understand and his better you need to
remember what the particles look like solid,
liquid, and a gas.
 Industrial noise also adds to the already unfavorable
state of noise pollution.
 Loud speakers, plumbing, boilers, generators, air
conditioners, fans, and vacuum cleaners add to the
exist noise pollution.

In one phone the sound is
charged into an electrical
signal then into a radio.
In the second phone
the radio signal is
charged into an
electrical signal then
into sound.
Sound- electrical signal-
Radio signal- electrical
Signal- sound .
 The message travels through miles of wire
as an electrical signal.
 Sound travels 4 times faster through water than
through air.
 There is no sound in space.
 Geologist use their knowledge of how sound
travels through rocks to help them find oil fields
 Whales in the ocean “sing” to each other. The
sound of their song can travel a distance of
800km.
 Sound moves through the air at 340 per
second.
 String make music by plucking or strumming
the strings.
 Woodwind make music by blowing on the
top of the instrument or on a reed.
