Behaviour in animals
Animals have different types of behaviour patterns.
SHY ANIMALS
Some animals are not familiar with the human beings. They hide on
seeing humans. They run away if we go near them. We can make
them friends by feeding them ; by making efforts to be nice to them.
Behaviour in animals
Animals have different types of behaviour patterns.
FRIENDLY ANIMALS
Animals like cats, dogs, cows, horses, camels, buffaloes are not scared
of human. They are friendly towards us. They live with us so they are
not shy animals.
Animals help each other in many ways
Birds like egrets and ox pecker sit on the bodies of big animals
like cows, buffaloes. They eat small insects clinging on their
body. The birds get food to eat and animals get rid of insects.
Animals help each other in many ways
A bird called plover eats the flesh sticking to the teeth of
crocodiles. Thus both animals benefits each other
Animals help each other in many ways
• When big carnivorous cats like tigers , leopards move out of
their den for hunting, the birds and monkeys create a lot of
noise to warn other animals who are in danger.
WHAT IS
CAMOUFLAGE?
Camouflage is a way of
protecting oneself by
blending into the
surroundings. Many
animals camouflage so
well that they are invisible
to their enemies.
Ears of animals
Different animals have different types of ears according to
their body requirements.
ANIMALS WITH BIG EARS
Some animals have big ears.
Their ears enables them to catch
a lot of sounds.
For example, Elephant and rabbits
Ears of animals
Different animals have different types of ears according to
their body requirements.
ANIMALS WITH SMALL EARS
A dog has ears which can move to know from where the sound
is coming. A polar bear has small nubs in lace of ears which can
be closed while swimming. A bird has two ear holes in the head
in place of external ears to fly easily in air. Snakes do not have
ears. They sense through the vibrations on the ground.
Body covering in animals
All animals do not have same kind of skin. They have a different
type of skin cover which is suitable for the place where they live.
• All mammals like deer, camel, zebra, horse, goat have short hair
on their body.
• Animals which live in very cold areas like polar bears and yak have
a thick coat of fur/hair to keep them warm.
• Reptiles like snakes, lizards, crocodiles have scales on their body.
• Birds have feathers which keep them warm and helps them to fly.
Social animals
Ants and honey bees are two good examples of social animals.
Ants live in colonies called anthills built on ground, on grass and
even on rotted woods
The colonies consist of queen ants, male ants and worker ants
the queen ants and male ants get together to reproduce and
lay eggs Worker ants do all the work i.e. taking care of babies,
collecting food, protection of anthills
Social animals
Honeybees are social bees that lives in beehives or combs. A
beehive is a large pouch like structure consisting of thousand of
hexagonal chambers called comb in which honey stored.
Honey bees are usually attracted to nice smelling flowers
which have a sweet liquid called nectar. The honey bees suck
the nectar and change it into honey.
Human beings, bear and other animals try to raid beehives to
steal honey. But honeybees protect their hives by stinging
them. People light a fire under the hives to make the bees
leave the hive due to heat and smoke. When the honey bees fly
away the honey is collected
Animal Shelters
Just like us animals also need to protect themselves from bad weather
conditions, enemies, to rest and reproduce. Some animals live in
natural surroundings while others build shelters for themselves
Animals Living in natural surroundings
