Shiripuno Lodge     is a new tourist facility in the Ecuador-
                                                                                 ian Amazon. Its remote location in the pristine tropical rain-

                                                                                 Shiripuno Lodge sits within the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve
                                                                                 a United Nations Reserve, which boasts the highest concen-

                                                                                 Its biodiversity is due to unique geographic and climate
                                                                                 conditions during the Pleistocene era, which rendered the

                                                                                 Our cabins, furnished with both single and double beds, accommodate up to three
                                                                                 people in one room. All rooms have private bathrooms and hammocks. No electric-
                                                                                 ity is available; all light is by candle, creating a perfect harmony with the sights and
                                                                                 sounds of the rainforest.

                                                                      no Bridge (approx. 3 hrs). Lunch. Then we’ll take
                                                                      the motorized canoe down- stream, to reach the
                                                                      Shiripuno Lodge, which is at 210 meters.a.s.l. The
                                                                      ride will take approximately 4 hours and it offers
                                                                      a great chance to get introduced to the wide di-
                                                                      versity of wildlife in the rainforest. Dinner and

                                                                      sible to see different species of birds, especially
                                                                      the bizarre looking Hoatzin. Dinner. Night excur-
                                                                      sion to get into to the night life of the forest and to
                                                                      look for Caiman. Lodging.



                                                                      D A Y 0 4 : After breakfast, navigate upstream to the
                                                                      Huaorani Community (Neoneno), where you will have
                                                                      the oppor- tunity to learn about their traditions and
                                                                      customs. Lunch. We’ll continue the navigation up-
                                                                      stream to the bridge where we are going to take
                                                                      the bus back to Coca (arrival at 17:30 approx.).

                                                                         animals licking minerals and admire the rich-
                                                                         ness of plants and trees along the way. Box
                                                                         lunch. In the afternoon we will hike back to
                                                                         the campsite. Night excursions to get into the
                                                                         night life of the forest and to try to see Caiman.
                                                                         Dinner and lodging.

                                                                         DAY 04:    Breakfast. Then we’ll go to the ox-
                                                                         bow lake where it is possible to see different
                                                                         species of plants and animals. Lunch. In the
                                                                         afternoon we will take the motorized canoe
                                                                         and go to one of the small rivers where is pos-
                                                                         sible to see many different species of birds,
                                                                         especially the bizarre looking Hoatzin. Dinner
                                                                         and Lodging.

SHIRIPUNO’S ADVENTURE
                                                                                          6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTS


                                                           DAY 01:      Quito-Coca by airplane. From Coca, we
                                                           will travel south by small pick-up or bus to Shiripuno
                                                           Bridge (approx. 3 hours). Box Lunch. We will take a
                                                           motorized canoe downstream to our campsite. The
                                                           ride will take approximately 4 hours and you will
                                                           be introduced to the wide diversity of wildlife in the
                                                           rainforest, including macaws, toucans, monkeys,
                                                           caimans and others. Dinner and lodging in tents.



                                                           DAY 02:     Breakfast. We will take a 3 to 4 hour hike
                                                           through the primary forest on the Misterioso Trail,
                                                           which has a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310
                                                           meters above sea level. The Huaorani and naturalist
                                                           guides will share their knowledge on the biodiver-
                                                           sity of the rainforest and the medicinal plants that
                                                           local people use. This hike requires that you be in
                                                           good physical condition. Lunch. In the afternoon,
                                                           we will go piranha fishing on the oxbow lake. Dinner
                                                           and lodging in tents.



                                                           DAY 03:    Breakfast. We take an easy hike to the El
                                                           Misterioso Trail, where we are probably to find sev-

SHIRIPUNO BIRDING

                                                           DAY 04:     Breakfast. Our next birding trail will be “El
                                                           Misterioso Trail” a good birding trail with a lot of mixed
                                                           flock with Yasuni Antwren, Red-crowned Ant-Tanager,
                                                           Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner; territories for
                                                           Thrush-like Antpitta, Ringed Antpitta, Banded Antbird,
                                                           and others, it will keep us busy the entire day as we add
                                                           more species to our list. Lunch in the forest.

                                                           D A Y 0 5 : Breakfast. Birding along “Skucth Trail” and
                                                           try for the Salvin’s Curassow, Ocellated Woodcreeper,
                                                           Spotted Puffbird, Black-necked Cotinga, Grayish Mourner, Long-winged Antwren and
                                                           others. Lunch in the lodge. In the afternoon check for some of the vicinity species we
                                                           have missed.

                                                           DAY 06:     Breakfast and birding along the river to get to the El Saladero trail and it
                                                           leads to the forest clay lick, where sometimes there is a chance to find the Scarlet Ma-
                                                           caw, Orange-cheeked Parrot, Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet. Lunch in the Forest.

                                                           DAY 07:    After breakfast navigation to the Huaorani Community of Neoneno, where
                                                           you will have the opportunity to learn about their traditions and customs. Lunch. And
                                                           then we continue navigation upstream to the bridge where we will take the bus back to
                                                           Coca (arrival at 16:30 approx.).

How do I to get to Shiripuno Lodge?
                                                                 In a 30 minutes flight from Quito to Coca

                                                                 Bus ride from Quito. Our staff will meet you
                                                                 in Coca at the Hotel Auca or at the Airport.
                                                                 We start our trip at 10:30 AM. We will drive

                                                                 to the Shiripuno River. Downstream on the

  • 23. Shiripuno Lodge is a new tourist facility in the Ecuador- ian Amazon. Its remote location in the pristine tropical rain- forest provides an extraordinary opportunity for a lifetime experience in the Amazon Rainforest. Then we’ll take the motorized canoe down- stream, to reach the Shiripuno Lodge, which is at 210 meters.a.s.l. The ride will take approximately 4 hours and it offers a great chance to get introduced to the wide di- versity of wildlife in the rainforest. The ride will take approximately 4 hours and you will be introduced to the wide diversity of wildlife in the rainforest, including macaws, toucans, monkeys, caimans and others. Dinner and lodging in tents. DAY 02: Breakfast. We will take a 3 to 4 hour hike through the primary forest on the Misterioso Trail, which has a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310 meters above sea level. The Huaorani and naturalist guides will share their knowledge on the biodiver- sity of the rainforest and the medicinal plants that local people use. Our next birding trail will be “El Misterioso Trail” a good birding trail with a lot of mixed flock with Yasuni Antwren, Red-crowned Ant-Tanager, Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner; territories for Thrush-like Antpitta, Ringed Antpitta, Banded Antbird, and others, it will keep us busy the entire day as we add more species to our list. Birding along “Skucth Trail” and try for the Salvin’s Curassow, Ocellated Woodcreeper, Spotted Puffbird, Black-necked Cotinga, Grayish Mourner, Long-winged Antwren and others. Lunch in the lodge.
