1. Dear Future Employer:
I am enclosing this explanation to address the employment gaps on my resume; for they were due to
situations beyond my control. I was laid off from my full time job in 2008 due to company downsizing.
The company I worked for made cutbacks because of the recession so my position was eliminated.
Ever since then, I have been working temporary jobs to make ends meet while searching for
permanent full time employment. It’s not that I’m a job hopper or I don’t want to work, I’ve been taking
whatever was available to keep working.
Below you will find explanations for each gap:
1. 1/2016-present-Attended career workshops. Currently volunteer for Penn Hospice services
starting 6/21/16.
2. 6/2015-9/2015- Landed temporary assignment at Aetna .
3. 11/2014-6/2015-Searched for work and went back to school to complete my education from
5/2015-6/2015.
4. 3/13-4/13-Attended career workshop at church
5. 12/2010-02/2011- Worked a temp job from 02/2011-03/2011.
6. 03/2011-12/2011- Landed another temporary assignment in December 2011 and worked until
March 2012.
7. 6/2010-10/2010-Worked a temporary job from 10/2010-11/2010 in NJ.
8. 12/2008-11/2009-Laid off due to company downsizing on 12/31/08. Worked a temporary
assignment from 11/2009-12/2009.
9. Worked a temp assignment from 3/08-6/08.
10.04/2007-10/2007-Searched for work. Worked a temporary assignment from 10/2007-02/2008
You may decide not to consider nor hire me for the position, but I hope you will take this explanation
into consideration. I had to be honest and do not want you to have a bad impression of me as a
candidate.
Sincerely,
Shirelle N. Hill
