DESCRIPTION
OpenSesame requires the use of this guide when developing elearning courses. This will help
increase the usage of content through quality descriptions and learning objectives.
Content curation is critical to move
from simply “pushing” content to
content that is actively being “pulled”
• The course description should range between 40 to 160 words
• No special characters (e.g. parenthesis, symbols, bullet points)
• Avoid complicated or specific vocabulary and abbreviations
• Use complete sentences and keywords that relate to the course
• All objectives should range between 10 to 15 words
• For courses under one hour, there should be 1 to 3 objectives
• For courses over one hour, there should be 3 to 5 objectives
• No special characters
• Preferably no periods at the end of each objective

Proper objectives accurately describe the skills your course is
going to teach the learner. Objectives should be competence
based and easily understood.
A well-written course description ensures end users have a good
understanding of what they can expect from taking the course.
