To Whom It May Concern:
In my thirty-five years working in intercollegiate athletics, Shelby Michaelis ranks as one of the most
impressive student-athletes I have had the pleasure to work with. Shelby was an outstanding
representative of Missouri S&T and will continue to be throughout her life.
The success as a student-athlete she enjoyed was outstanding, earning multiple awards and honors. She
accomplished these honors while being a strong leader for her team while serving as team captain and
president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Shelby worked hard to develop her outstanding
leadership skills that benefitted her teammates and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
As president of SAAC, Shelby led the group to unprecedented success. This past year our Student-
Athlete Advisory Committee won the Great Lakes Valley Conference SAAC Challenge trophy which is a
yearlong competition among the sixteen conference institutions and is based on criteria involving
academic achievement, athletic achievement, community service projects and raising money for Make-
A-Wish Foundation. Shelby organized and motivated the group throughout the year and did an
exceptional job.
She committed herself to providing service to others and to encouraging others to do the same. She
gladly gave her time and energy to support numerous service projects and made a positive difference
for others. She made a definite and positive impact on our program during her tenure as a student-
athlete at Missouri S&T.
I feel extremely privileged to recommend Shelby Michaelis. Her character, passion, and compassion for
others are unquestionable. She is a visible example of what we all in intercollegiate athletics want our
student-athletes to be. We have been fortunate to have many outstanding student-athletes come
through our program. Shelby is in the top class among them.
Shelby will be very successful as a professional and will make a positive impact on her place of business
and her community. I have no doubt that Shelby will make a difference and the world will be better
because of her. Thank you for your consideration of her and please do not hesitate to contact me if you
would like to discuss her outstanding qualities further.
Sincerely,
