TARRANT

YEAR TWO — PROGRESS

TARRANT
get where you want to go
OUR OBJECTIVEOur goal is to increase awareness and reduce
transportation barriers for people with disabilities.
We want every Tarrant County citizen to be able
to connect to their community easily, safely and
affordably.
MyRide’s IMPACT
“MyRide has allowed me to live my life, be out more and
to do more things. I was homeless for about nine years,
but instead of watching the grass grow I spent my time
volunteering. I’m a doer, not a watcher. I volunteered
at AmeriCorps, United Way and Catholic Charities. As a
driver for Catholic Charities, I saw an opportunity of
the lifetime. There are many needs for disabled veterans
and many disabled people that need to do everyday
things like get to the doctor, or the Laundromat or the
grocery store. A lot of times disabled people won’t be
able to get to the grocery store or the doctor, so they
just don’t go. As a driver, I got to help out people like me
navigate through transportation barriers and teach
them about services such as MyRide–Tarrant. People
shouldn’t have to learn to get around the hard way.”
WHO WE AREAt MyRide–Tarrant, we offer navigation services to people with physical and mental disabilities. We
connect individuals to their desired destinations by providing personalized help, direct communication
and training workshops. We work personally with people with disabilities, as well as their caseworkers,
caregivers and family.
MyRide–Tarrant has been helping people get where they want to go since 2010, and we are looking
forward to another great year of service in 2015!
David Goodin, MyRide patron
GET GOING!
In August 2014, MyRide–Tarrant partnered with
the T, Fort Worth ISD and Easter Seals Project
Action to provide intensive training to teachers
who support students with disabilities as they
transition into adult life. The training focused on
the skills needed to use bus, rail and other transit
services. These options connect students to where
they need and want to go.

GET WHERE YOU WANT TO GO!In 2014, MyRide–Tarrant added a focus on a generally unreached target audience who utilized our
services seasonally. We wanted to reach a younger demographic to ensure people of all ages were
using MyRide–Tarrant to increase their independence. To achieve this we started the “get where
you want to go” campaign, targeting young adults age 16-35. Along with the new tagline, we created
several mobile options, including a texting service to interact with our navigators. This movement will
continue into 2015 to help people of all ages get where they want to go!

WHERE WE’RE GOING
Many veterans do not have reliable access to a
car or are unable to drive due to a disability, age-
related changes or involvement with the judicial
system.
These obstacles may prevent them from
traveling to school, job training, work, medical
appointments, or other requirements and social
activities.
In 2015, the MyRide–Tarrant ReadyVetGo
program will train 62 veterans and veteran
agency staff members to become coaches on
transportation services and supports. This will
create a low-cost, high-value navigator force who
can help their peers find their best general or
veteran-specific transportation option.
This service promotes transportation options
as veterans transition into their new normal or
grow older in age, so that each individual can get
where they want to go!
ReadyVetGo! Tarrant Mobility Academy
MyRide–Tarrant can help you or someone
you care about get where they want to go. Do
you have questions about our services? Are you
curious about how you can help support MyRide–
Tarrant and continue improving our programs to
better meet the needs of individuals in Tarrant
County? Contact us today!
Want To Get Involved?
A June 2011 MyRide-Tarrant survey of human
resources staff working with individuals with
disabilities revealed that 60% were not familiar
with available transportation services or supports.
The Mobility Academy is an ongoing program,
taking place from February to June 2015. The
Academy meets monthly to train 40 staff
members from various health and human
service agencies. Equipped with information
and skills, these staff members will serve as in-
house navigators with the goal of eliminating
transportation barriers for their clients.
This training will produce a 40-fold increase
in navigators that can serve, support and
partner with other health and human resource
clients. These navigators will become the go-to
transportation resources to help people get where
they want to go!
