Personal Injury We deal with all aspects of complex personal injury costs from large value
catastrophic injury including brain and spinal injuries, to serious RTA.
With the changes brought about by the Jackson reforms it is more important
than ever that Practitioners are able to maximise their costs recovery under
the new regime, and release lock up in the shortest possible time.
We are committed to maximising costs recovery for Claimant Solicitors and
adding value to their bottom line. We ensure all our Costs Consultants are
fully trained in the CPR and relevant case law, as well as retainer issues and
correct wording of costs orders/settlement agreements.
Commercial Our senior Costs Lawyers are on hand to deal with costs in commercial
cases. We appreciate that these cases are often complex in nature and
therefore we provide full and informative narratives with the Bills of Costs
to assist in maximising costs recovery.
7. Services
Clinical Negligence We have a dedicated team experienced in preparing detailed Bills of Costs for
all types of Clinical Negligence claims including cases involving birth injury,
cancer misdiagnosis, cerebral palsy, erbs palsy, obstetrics, gynaecology
claims, neurological negligence claims, paediatrics, urology, orthopaedic
surgery and claims arising from Coroners Inquests.
In complex cases involving high levels of costs, as well as cases involving
separate liability and quantum trials, we understand that cash flow can be an
issue. We are pro-active in seeking and obtaining interim payments on behalf
of our clients whether during the claim itself when quantum is ongoing, or as
part of the detailed assessment proceedings. We are happy to advise on the
correct wording of any agreements/orders relating to liability issues to ensure
there is no undue delay in obtaining costs.
The team are experienced in costing Inter Partes and CLS funded claims, and
are well versed in client care to ensure all dealings with clients, third parties
and Defendants are respectful, efficient and compliant.

Advocacy P I Costing Limited have a dedicated team of skilled Advocates who have
experience in conducting Detailed Assessments in County Courts throughout
England and Wales as well as the Senior Court Costs Office. They will ensure
that all cases are carefully risk assessed so that the decision to proceed to
Detailed Assessment is a considered one. You will be provided with full advice
as to the matters in issue.
If we are negotiating on your Bill then the Detailed Assessment department will
work closely with our Negotiations department to ensure all matters are
considered as offers are received.
We are also happy to accept instructions to prepare Points of Dispute or
Replies, willing to provide written advice on offers and to conduct Joint
Meetings, where you have been ordered by the Court to narrow the issues.
Once the decision to proceed is taken then we will ensure that a strong line is
taken and that there is a willingness to fight all the way to the hearing, unless
substantially improved offers are made.
We are happy to accept instructions on an Agency Basis from other Costs
Consultants or from Solicitors for whom we have not prepared the Bill or
Points of Dispute.
9. Services
Group Litigation Costs in group litigation cases can be inherently problematic and involve
complex issues or difficulties relating to apportionment. Our senior Costs
Lawyers are experienced in dealing with this specialist area of Personal Injury
and Clinical Negligence costs and are able to provide detailed, properly
apportioned Bills of Costs to assist in maximising the costs recovery and
simplifying the detailed assessment process as much as possible.
Consultancy Not only can we provide you with the costing solution to secure the maximum
recovery, we can also provide you with strategic advice at every key stage of the
costing process including preparation of estimates, advice on budgeting and
security for costs.
To avoid any pitfalls in recovering costs, it is important to make sure a valid
retainer is in place and that proper advice is given by Practitioners to the lay client
in relation to funding. There may also be circumstances where a retainer may
need to be changed or a new agreement entered into, which can need careful
wording to ensure all costs remain recoverable.
We are happy to advise on any retainer documents and costs issues at any stage
of the claim, from outset to conclusion.
We are also on hand to advise at every stage of the negotiation and Detailed
Assessment process, including applications for interim payments and any
preliminary issues.
10. Services
Negotiation For many the frustrations and delays solicitors experience means that they either
accept offers that are too low or fail to put sufficient pressure on the Paying Party
to progress the claim.
At P I Costing we have a dedicated team who are wholly familiar with the tactics
employed by Paying Parties' representatives and know when to take a harsh line
and when to be flexible. We have a reputation for standing our ground.
We will provide you with advice from the outset as to the steps we intend to take
and the amounts we feel are reasonable. We also ensure that you are updated
as the case progresses, including providing regular Management reports as to
the progression of your files.
Our negotiators have a moderate case load. That means that they have the time
to devote to each file to ensure that the claim is progressed rapidly to conclusion.
We like to enter Service Level Agreements so that each client has an agreed
work flow, which provides a guarantee as to the timescales within which we
operate.
However, this does not take away from the individual approach taken to each
case, it merely ensures that you can have confidence as to the steps being taken
to recover your costs.
11. Services
Drafting Bills of Costs PI Costing Limited have an excellent team of experienced specialist Costs
Consultants who pride themselves on the quality of the Bills that they produce.
We work hard to ensure that the Bill of Costs demonstrates the reasonableness
and proportionality of your costs. In particular we pay detailed attention to
ensuring that each Bill contains a full explanation of the work that you have had
to undertake and the reasons for it. Our sizeable and flexible team means that
we are able to offer a rapid turnaround. In routine matters this is 7 working days.
In larger cases this is obviously increased, but work will commence on every file
within 5 days of receipt and, if required, a date when the Bill will be completed
can be provided on receipt of instructions. We also offer an urgent 24 hour
turnaround for Statements of Costs for Listing Questionnaires, Allocation
Questionnaires, Infant Approval hearings or application hearings.
We will also always provide our advice on any retainer issues, including in
relation to the enforceability of your Conditional Fee Agreement or recoverabilty
of Additional Liabilities. We can also provide our advice on suggested levels of
settlement at the time the Bill is prepared.
Charges are either on the basis of a percentage of profit costs or the hourly rate
depending on the preference of the client. A courier delivery service is available
for the safe and secure transport of your files, including tracked files, and we
are also on the DX network.

13. Training and Events
PI Costing Limited believes that the key to maximising costs is for Solicitors and their Costs advisors to
act together to ensure that as much as legitimately possible is recovered from Paying Parties. A key part
of that is ensuring that our clients are fully up to date with all costs issues. In modern litigation it is
essential that the fee earner is focused on costs throughout the lifetime of the case.
Our Senior Costs Consultants and Costs Lawyers regularly speak at events and conferences throughout
the UK on all costs related topics including recent updates, case law, file management issues and
changes to the rules and regulations.
We are also able to provide bespoke in house training sessions to both our clients and potential clients,
which are especially useful as they address specific matters that we have noticed from working on their
files.
PI Costing Limited is an SRA Accredited CPD Training Provider.
If you would like PI Costing to attend your organisation to deliver some bespoke costs training, please

Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is the independent charity which promotes better patient
safety and justice for people who have been affected by a medical accident. A 'medical accident' is
where avoidable harm has been caused as a result of treatment or failure to treat appropriately. AvMA
believes that whatever the cause of a medical accident, the people affected deserve explanations,
support, and where appropriate, compensation. Furthermore, we all deserve to know that the necessary
steps will be taken to prevent similar accidents being repeated.
AvMA provide free and confidential advice and support to people affected by medical accidents, via our
helpline and casework service and can refer to our panel of specialist clinical negligence solicitors or
