Vision-Personal and Professional
Personal
My vision is to be someone who makes a difference. I see myself as an ambitious person
who is intrinsically motivated. I want to live my life in a way that others are moved by
my actions. I want to continue to grow in faith and stand as a positive model for all who
are associated with me.
Professional
I vision myself as a person who upholds high standards of living. I see myself as an
effective administrator. I plan to complete my Specialist and Doctorate in Education. I
will stress the importance of setting high expectations for the students and encouraging
them to reach their full potential. The ability to lead people to accomplish the important
work of the school will be my top priority. Effective principals realize that it is people,
not programs that determine the quality of a school. I believe that in order to improve a
school significantly, one must have the right teachers in the right positions—motivate and
empower them to adapt to change without losing sight of what really matters. I will stand
as a model as a life long learner and encourage my teachers to continue learning.
Instructional Manager
I will manage instruction by being actively engaged in the process. I will aim to create an
environment that is conducive to learning. I will encourage and assist my teachers to
become leaders in their profession. I will allow them to share their knowledge. I will
empower them and supply them with tools that make them effective in the classroom. I
believe in building relationships with actions that value others. I will empower my
teachers by creating a shared vision framed around student success. I will attempt to
establish trust among my teachers by giving teachers the freedom to teach and by
delegating responsibility to them.
Collaboration
I will collaborate with others in my profession. Communication with parents, students,
and community members will be a priority. I would allow the teachers to aid in the
decision-making process. I would collaborate with teachers and listen to their input. The
goal is to create a collegial atmosphere. I feel that collaboration helps build relationships
that are vital in the success of a strong educational institution. In the book BRAVO
Principal (Building Relationships with Actions that Value Others) by Sandra Harris,
copyrighted in 2004 by the Eye on Education publishing company, states that “actions
that are empowering give power”. Harris mentions that principals should involve all
stakeholders in creating the campus vision for student success and to develop a
collaborative plan that clearly articulate objectives and strategies for implementing the
campus vision. Collaborative procedures should be established to assess and modify
plans to ensure achievement of the vision and then implement them. Communication
with all groups in the school community is essential. As one can see, collaboration is an
action that empowers others.
Management
Effective management is key in all productive working environments. All management
duties will be geared toward creating an environment that is safe and promotes learning
for the students. By assigning and assisting in tasks, I will be effective in managing my
certified and classified staff. Here again, I would share the power and in so doing would
build leadership at every level. I would create teacher leaders, student leaders, and
community leaders. I would involve all stakeholders in delegating responsibilities for
running a school.
Ethical Behavior
I feel that it is very important for administrators to be good listeners, honest, loyal, and
knowledgeable. Being able to build relationships within your building is very important.
Listening and showing concern for your staff will build a strong support system. Honesty
allows staff members to develop trust. They will feel comfortable voicing their opinions
and talking about their concerns. A good administrator has to be loyal to their opinions
and talking about their concerns. A good administrator has to be loyal to their job. If
they develop the sense of loyalty, they perform their job well. Administrators also have
to be knowledgeable. They must know about what is going on, be active, and seek ways
to improve their schools and themselves.
Politics
Political groups play a major role in education. I think that is very important to listen to
them and address their concerns. Allowing them to be a part of the educational setting
will create supportive relationships and constitutes education in and of itself.
