9. Chapter One
Pray Before We Say
God chooses to lock and seal our full beauty and our full worth within
Himself. By doing so, He protects that secret place from the eyes of man.
Let’s think about this. Your relationships on earth can be intimate and
honest, but really no one on earth has really fully able to understand your
unique desires. As well, no one on earth can engage your full affections.
God delights to hide our full beauty until He chooses to reveal it. He
considers it a pearl and He guards it.
9
10. One of my favorite proverbs, found in the Bible, is from the Book of
Proverbs chapter twenty-five, verse two; I would like to share with you at
this time.
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter but the glory of Kings is to
search out a matter.” This proverb confirms that God delights in being
mysterious and yet attainable. Because we are created in His image, we
too, have a mysterious nature. Our actions, um, and our desires may at
times: offend, confuse, or even trouble those around us. This isn’t because
we are bad, misguided, or acting inappropriately. It is because we each
have a soul. This soul has been made holy. This soul has been set apart and
it is not made like another.
10
11. God has made His temple and our body a Living secret place. Our
emotions, our desires and hopes; aspirations-- are motivated by the delicate
hands of our creator, who has chosen to knit us in the secret place.
You know, even if we, were able to approach with our best friend and share
with him or her—the deepest secrets of our heart, our best friend would not
be able to fully grasp these secrets. This is not because our best friends are
not insensitive to, or um, undiscerning. It is because God longs to own
these secrets. He delights to veil His pride in us, until an appropriate time.
Well, this is wonderful, “But what can we do? How do we cultivate the
secret place?” I would like to suggest these two ideas that would help us
understand how God cultivates the secret place.
11
12. First being, “We must pray before we say.” If we receive revelation from
God about our ministry, our purpose, or our destiny—we should not assume
we need to share this revelation with anyone, as we must first pray about it.
God might want you to hold those pearls in your heart and spirit. He may
want you to seal the revelation for a time, so He can enjoy them alone with
you.
Secondly, “We should not seek the praises of man.” Many times when
we share something that God has told us, we want accolades. This is
human nature, as we all want to be accepted and acknowledged, however,
God’s affections towards us are more valuable then man’s affections.
When God speaks His Love over you, soak in it without feeling the urge to
tell the world. We are in fact, living for the audience of Jesus our Heavenly
Bride Groom. Hallelujah! Find fulfillment and wholeness in the secret
12
13. place. If you do not feel satisfied with revelation unless you share it, you
may be seeking the praises of man. When God seals something in your
heart about you, He violently owns and cherishes that secret. We should
too.
13
14. Chapter Two
The Life of Hiddeness
Let us also consider the earthly ministry of Jesus. Jesus often showed great restraint. One
of my favorite actions performed by Jesus during His earthly ministry, was His ability to
restrain Himself and live in hiddeness. Sometimes restraint is more powerful then a
proclamation. Numerous times in the gospel, Jesus told people not to tell others about
Him. I would like to share a few examples with you today, on the “Life of Hiddeness.”
In the book of Matthew chapter twelve, verse fifteen and sixteen talks about Jesus as an
example of this. We read, “But when Jesus knew [it], he withdrew himself from thence:
and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; and charged them that they
should not make him known.”
14
15. Also, in the book of Matthew chapter sixteen, verse twenty we read, “Then He warned
the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.” As well, we read in
the book of Luke chapter eight, verse fifty-six says, “Her parents were amazed and He
instructed them to tell no one what had happened.” There other verses in the Bible that
speaks to this Truth.
If anyone has the right to brag about his or her accomplishments, it was Jesus! He was
perfect and He was the only begotten of the Father, and He is the Ruler of the Earth.
However, Jesus chose not to disrupt the secret place. He knew His acceptance was hidden
in the heart of the Father. The glory of Jesus, and His future reign along with His plan of
redemption remained a mystery until Father God chose to reveal it to the Apostles.
We can tell that God often works in secret behind the scenes. He is creating a generation
that will be nameless and faceless. We must live for the audience of God.
15
16. Chapter Three
The Pleasure of God
God did not create an average rotten vessel. We are His treasured possession. When we
do our mundane tasks, such as: washing dishes, walking our dog, or brushing our teeth—
we may buy into the lies that we are worthless or useless. However, our secret hidden
citizenship is always resting on us. We are beautiful! We are redeemed! We are His
children. Our worth will be revealed at the proper time. Our citizenship is in heaven
hidden away unto the appearing of our Savior.
At this very, while I am prattling on, you are receiving your own secret place insights.
These insights are locked away in your spirit. God is sharing mysteries with you. He is
beholding you in the secret place. He knows you intimately, and sees you as you are
created to be! Nothing lacking. Ask God to share secret treasures with you. Promise to
share them with no one. Allow your insights to fully rest in the Father’s care. Protect
16
17. them from the criticisms from the world. Guard your heart for it is the spring of Life.
This current world craves fame. We are a society that wants to have our names written up
in lights. It is extremely tempting to make a name for ourselves. Our culture feeds on
instantaneous gratification and we long for others to acknowledge our acceptance.
Acceptance is a strong human need. Unfortunately, because we have not learned to live in
the secret place we live most of our lives unsatisfied. We have insecurities and we are
constantly trying to prove ourselves.
When others misunderstand us we become alienated and experience loneliness.
Unfortunately, one of the greatest enemies of the secret place is past rejection. When
others reject us, we may expect God to reject us—as well. To protect ourselves from
rejection we stop being who God created us to be, simply to avoid the pain. We go
through the emotions and say all the right words. However, inside us we are dead. When
17
18. our Spiritual Life becomes based on performance we miss out on true intimacy with
Jesus.
Now, I am not saying this is easy. I know personally from my own life I am an extravert.
I like to perform. I like people to notice me. I crave attention. However, I am starting to
believe that healing begins when I am accepted in the secret place. So, let us ask God to
heal us. Let us ask God to help us to return to the secret place. Let us ask God that we
might find acceptance in Him alone. Let us ask God to help us nurture the secret place,
and to cherish the secret place. Let us stop seeking the praises of man and live for an
audience.
Thank you.
