The document discusses several tech trends from 2017 including cloud migration, virtual reality, smart home tech, automation, humanized big data, and intelligent apps with AI. Key points include that cloud migration involves moving digital assets and resources to the cloud; virtual reality uses headsets to simulate realistic virtual environments; smart home tech allows remote control and automation of devices like lights and appliances; and intelligent apps leverage AI for advanced analytics and more conversational interfaces.
2. CLOUD MIGRATION
Cloud migration is the process of partially or
completely deploying an organization's digital
assets, services, IT resources or applications to
the cloud.
Data sensitivity, Interoperability, Cost and time
are the challenges in this domain.
In News: Microsoft buys a high-performance
cloud company (Cycle computing) to boost
Azure against Amazon, Google
Fun Fact: Why are companies moving to the
Cloud? 81% simply fear ‘missing out’
3. VIRTUAL REALITY
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer technology that uses
Virtual reality headsets, to generate realistic images,
sounds and other sensations that simulate a user's
physical presence in an imaginary environment.
A person using virtual reality equipment is able to "look
around" the artificial world, and with high quality VR move
about in it and interact with virtual features or items.
In News: What if technology did away with buttons,
mouse clicks and typing altogether? That's the kind of
world Leap Motion imagines, with its hand-tracking
technology.
Fun Fact: According to the Walker Sands retail report, 35
percent of consumers surveyed said they would shop
more online if they were able to try on products virtually.
Avametric has set out to solve this problem with its
clothing-fit technology.
4. SMART HOME TECH
Home automation or Domotics is building automation for a
home, called a smart home.
It involves the control and automation of lighting, heating,
ventilation, air conditioning, and security, as well as home
appliances such as washer/dryers, ovens or
refrigerators/freezers.
Wi-Fi is often used for remote monitoring and control. Home
devices, when remotely monitored and controlled via the
Internet, are an important constituent of the Internet of
Things.
In News: Devices such as “connected” lightbulbs and smart
plugs let you automate lights and other appliances from your
smartphone, promise to cut power bills, and are widely
available from major retailers and online.
Fun Fact: A smart lock kills the need for keys, yet it suffered a
monumental fall from grace. Around 500 customers found
themselves locked out of homes last week after a faulty
software update caused a fatal system error !
5. AUTOMATION
Automation is the use of various control systems
for operating equipment and applications with
minimal or reduced human intervention.
In News: Fashion for Good, a global initiative to
make all fashion good, and SoftWear
Automation, a robotic sewing company,
will encourage the use of fully automated
Sewbot worklines for t-shirts, apparel, footwear
and home goods.
Fun Fact: Technology is going to become a
hygiene, with everybody using the same kind of
technology. The only differentiator would be the
innovation that you can bring into technology.
6. HUMANIZED BIG DATA
Information should be processed in such a way that non-data
scientists can also derive clear answers ̶ ‘actionable
insights’ ̶ from big data analysis and use them as a basis for
decision making.
The idea is that mass quantities of gathered data—which we
now have access to—can help us in everything from planning
better medical treatments to executing better marketing
campaigns.
In News: The Mastercard Center undertakes collaborations
with not-for-profit and governmental organizations on a range
of initiatives. One such effort was in collaboration with the
Obama White House’s Data-Driven Justice Initiative, by which
data was used to help advance criminal justice reform. This
initiative was then able, through the use of insights provided
by Mastercard, to demonstrate the impact crime has on
merchant locations and local job opportunities in Baltimore.
Fun Fact: 90% – Percentage of the world’s data created in the
last 2 years. People wishing each other Happy New Year drove
a 500% surge in smartphone data within just one year!
7. INTELLIGENT APPS WITH AI
Intelligent Apps are called so because they can transform
businesses by streamlining workplace processes, such as
prioritizing emails and highlighting specific content.
By leveraging AI, providers can focus on advanced
analytics, more autonomous business processes, and more
conversational interfaces.
In News: Recent News is a news aggregation app,
powered by Artificial Intelligence algorithms that will study
your reading habits. It will keep you updated on latest
articles, news, and relevant reading stuff according to your
interest and past behavior.
Fun Fact: Are you crazy about improving your English
accent without paying a hefty fee? Elsa is here to rescue
you. Elsa (English Language Speech Assistant) is an
artificial intelligent app offering professional coaching on
