1. SERVING THE DESERVING
Volume 1 / Issue 1
Since 2007, as part of my personal passion, I have been teaching at
institutions as a Visiting Faculty Member. Every year with every class I
make an effort to have my students contribute something to society.
This has multiple purposes; when you go out and talk to people it results
in real world learning, real world responses have you looking for real
solutions, the students have to help others by finding these solutions and
too make one realize that there are problems out there that are bigger
than all of us and finally to be thankful with who we are and where we
stand as compared to the less privileged. At times the students succeed
and sometimes they don’t but on all occasions all of them have made an
effort to make a difference.
This time at NUST the students were assigned a task to give back to the
society. We hope our small efforts helped make a small difference. If
you’d like to be a part of our efforts, we welcome you to join us.
HOW IT ALL STARTED?
In time span of 5 weeks, the students were asked to work for the
community. The students divided themselves into departments i.e. sales,
communication and project leads. This project has been a life-changing
experience for many students. It has brought in new perspective for
students on how to engage and develop relations with the community and
also to work on sustainable projects for the community.

INVOLVING THE STUDENTS
Phase I: Specify need and Collect Donations
Phase II: Engage with the community
Phase III: Serve the deserving
STUDENT FEEDBACK
“This has been an experience in itself. From coordinating with SOS villages to managing team members to
interacting with vendors has been a learning and memorable experience for me and as well the team members. The
fact that we brought smiles on innocent faces trumps any materialistic or financial help that we did. They were
happy to see the swings finally in usable and colourful condition. The team has selflessly devoted itself to work for
this one cause. The team worked very hard to fix and paint the swings.”
- Sameeha Rizvi (Student MBA 2k14)
INVOLVING THE CORPORATES
In this process Corporate Donors were also tried to be contacted. It would be unfair not to mention the support of the
IBA Alumni in Islamabad, Mr.Ali Minhaj, GM Risk and Investment, AWT who made all efforts through the process to
obtain corporate sponsorship for Rs.1.3 mn needed for the Dialysis Machine or Mr.Khurram Rahat, CEO, Teradata
who lined up the students with TeraCare a CSR wing of Teradata company.
Encouraging responses have also been received from Mr.Irfan Shaikh, CFO, Bestway Cement and Mr.Imran Butt,
CEO, Baker Hughes.
The investment firm SNL has made a contribution of Rs.150,000.00 for the process for the support of the cause of
funding medical help for the children suffering from Blood Cancer.
