Articles
1. Driving Design Efficiencies across the Aerospace Supply Chain
In the midst of financial turbulence, the aerospace industry has a number of signs of resiliency.
From 2008 through 2027, airline passenger traffic is expected to increase by 5 percent and cargo
by 5.8 percent annually, with Asia-Pacific leading as the largest single market. This growth rate is
twice the projected growth for the global economy as a whole.
2. Trains, Planes and Automobiles: Transportation and CAD Software
The transportation industry is a multi-billion dollar empire, encompassing everything from the
design of complex aerospace products to the production of motorcycles. The sector is
characterized by a vast range of products, most of which bear little resemblance to each other in
terms of appearance and end-use. For all its diversity, however, the industry finds common
ground in a number of trends that are shaping the way that transportation equipment is designed,
manufactured and marketed in today's global economy.
3. The Inside Track on Aircraft Design
In spite of the economic gloom surrounding the global aviation industry, prospects remain bright
for the aircraft interiors sector. Today, it is a multi-billion dollar market. Its success is at least
partly driven by aesthetic considerations, which are an increasingly important differentiator. This
article looks at the key challenges faced by manufacturers and outlines how they can use design
software to combat these challenges before looking at the benefits they can achieve as a result.
2. Case Studies
1. Functional Design of Aircraft Engines in VZLU with Autodesk Inventor
(Aeronautical Research case study)
Among many research activities, the Engine Division has been involved in a design of modern
reduction gear-box for a small prop-jet aircraft engine representing a unique category in today’s
turbine aircraft engine global market. The engine is being constructed in co-operation with Prvni
brnenska strojirna Velka Bites, which had already developed commercially successful turbojet
engine TJ 100 A based on a prop-jet engine, for which the new reduction gear-box has been
designed.
2. Bombardier Aerospace Uses Autodesk 3ds Max Design to Bring Functionality,
Style, and Convenience to Buyers of Business Jets (Bombardier case study)
It was more than 70 years ago that Quebec mechanic Joseph-Armand Bombardier came up with
the idea for a vehicle that could “float on snow.” A series of military, industrial, and recreational
vehicles resulted – including the iconic Ski-Doo® snowmobile brand – but even a visionary like
Bombardier himself could hardly have imagined how high his company would one day fly. Today,
Bombardier Aerospace is the world’s third largest civil aircraft manufacturer and an undisputed
leader in the design and manufacturing of aviation products and services for the business,
regional, and amphibious aircraft markets.
