The document discusses re-shooting images for a music magazine. The first photo chosen for the front cover was re-shot due to bad lighting and inappropriate outfit in the original. The new front cover photo follows magazine conventions by having the model pose naturally and gaze at the reader. Additional photos were re-shot for the contents page and double-page spreads to better reflect the artist's personality, music genre, and avoid strictly portraying the "male gaze". The re-shot images aim to present the artist and instruments more naturally rather than posing stiffly.
2. Front Cover - Image
I have taken another medium
shot for the front page of my
music magazine because the
first photos I did there was
bad lighting and the model did
not seem to be dressed
appropriate as in this shot.
This shot also follows the rules
and conventions of a front
page magazine as she is posing
naturally and she is dazing into
the eyes of the reader to
attract them to pick up them
magazine.
This image presents the
male gaze theory, of how
she is presented with her
body language and her
eyes are very seductive,
attracting the audience to
read the magazine.
However I also think that it
is not presenting the male
gaze, as the artist is being
herself. As she is not
wearing so much makeup
you would expect other
artist to present.
3. I chose this photo for
the contents page
because it reflects the
genre R&B. When a
reader looks inside the
magazine, they look at
the contents page and
attract the audience
with the text but with
photos.
The images were re-taken because of the lightening
it was really dark in the room. So I decided to retake
and present her personality of the artist more
through the images.
I did have a selection of
images before but I didn’t
capture this sexiness of
the artist to draw in the
audience. So I decided to
make her pose in ways
she felt she was
comfortable and play
around with the
jewellery. Some male
gaze theory is presented
by the use of the
jewellery. How the artist
is reflecting the wealth of
there fame and girls look
sexy with bling.
Furthermore reflects the
genre.

4. Contents Page – Instrument
Images The shots of the guitar reflect the research of the genre, they
both do. They were one of the instruments that started
rhythms and blues, the use of creating jazzy music with theses
instruments. The guitar photo I would like to manipulate and
make it black and white but change the hue/saturation to
make it bolder and brighter in certain areas.
Whereas the photo of the young girl playing the
piano will stay the same, maybe make the
saturation and brightness lighter to grab those
warm colours. This is image I chose to take
because it reflects the music and how it is being
created.
5. Double Page Spread – 1st
Image
The artist captured in this shot
laughing creates this idea of reflecting
different side of her. Her personality
is coming out even though this was a
mug-shot and she didn’t realise I was
taking photos of her. Creates this idea
that in photos we don’t need to pose
and be stiff, we can relax and be
natural when we laugh or smile.
I think this is a great medium shot as I
captured her body movement well for
the double page spread. This is image
will be really effective when on the
page of the double page spread as it
reflects who she is and that she is not
going through with the male gaze
theory.
6. Double Page Spread – 2nd
Image
This will be very large image that
will take most of the double page
spread. As it will be the
sensational and big shot
everyone will look at, create the
focus of the page.
This shot presents another side
of her personality, her feisty
side. That she is a normal person
and is crazy and fun like every
other person. Also supports that
she is not following the male
gaze theory by being her own
person and not perfect.
7. Double Page Spread – 3rd
Image
I like this shot as she is being secretive by
covering her face with her hand and
revealing only her eyes. Also showing off
that ring on her hand which creates these
assumptions to the media, what's it for, who
is it for? etc….
This image may represent a bit of male gaze
theory as we have this idea of her being
cheeky and only using her eyes to reel you in
to read/buy the magazine.
