8 Bits of Information You Should Include on Product Labels

  1. 1. 8 BITS OF INFORMATION YOU SHOULD INCLUDE ON PRODUCT LABELS You don’t want to leave anything important out!
  2. 2. 1. PRODUCT NAME  The first thing a consumer is going to look for when searching for a product is the product name. The product name, in this sense, is basically the declaration of what the product is.  Is it shampoo? Face wash? Paint? No consumer should be wondering what’s inside the container. That’s why a clear product name is essential on every product label.
  3. 3. 2. COMPANY NAME  You want people who are buying your product to know that it’s yours. The only way they’ll know that is if you put your company name on the product’s label.  In fact, labels are a great form of advertisement for your company and they can help create brand awareness (the instant recognition of your brand).
  4. 4. 3. COMPANY LOGO  If your company has a logo (which most successful companies do), include it on the label as well.  A logo is a small graphic, also known as a symbol, that depicts an organization’s style and product.  If you want your company’s brand to become more familiar, putting your logo on labels will definitely help.
  5. 5. 4. COMPANY SLOGAN  A slogan is the catchphrase a company develops in order to make its name and products more identifiable. The more often people hear or see the phrase, the easier it will be for them to remember it. That’s why it’s critical to include your company’s slogan on product labels.
  6. 6. 5. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION  While it may seem pretty obvious what some products are meant to be used for, it’s still important to put a small description on the label. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy one. Even a simple phrase like, “first aid antiseptic” is a description that will help promote your product.
  7. 7. 6. DIRECTIONS  Once again, you may not think your product will need a set of instructions because the use of it is so straight forward.  However, some people may find the lack of directions frustrating and will therefore stop buying your product.  For the sake of all your customers, include directions on a separate label on the back of your product.
  8. 8. 7. LIST OF INGREDIENTS  Since there are a wide variety of people with a wide variety of allergies potentially buying your product, it’s critical that you also include a list of ingredients.  Including the ingredients is more for safety than anything, and if you don’t want any unnecessary trouble, it’s best you put that ingredient list on the label on the back of the product next to the instructions.
  9. 9. 8. POTENTIAL HAZARDS  In addition to listing ingredients, it’s extremely important to list any hazards your product may cause if used incorrectly. Make sure this hazard warning is stated clearly and noticeably so that it’s not missed. Consumer safety should always be a top priority.
