Dancehall, Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska
Jamaica has many genre of music. The music genre in
Jamaica
include, folk, mento, ska, rocksteady, reggae, dancehal
l and dub music. Today's lesson will focus on four
genres of music:
     Ska
     Rocksteady
     Reggae
     Dancehall
Ska
Ska

 A combination of mento, American Jazz and rhythm
  and blues.

 Ska began in the 1950s due to the heavy influx of
  American jazz and rhythm and blues.

 The first Ska recordings were done at the legendary
  Studio One by Coxsone Dodd.

 Coxsone Dodd is one of the most important figures
  in the history of ska.

Rocksteady
Rocksteady

 Rocksteady began in 1966.

 It is a derivative of Ska.

 Rocksteady has a slower tempo than ska.

 It laid the foundation for reggae to be created.

 Rocksteady only lasted for about 2 years as the
  dominant music in Jamaica.

 Reggae’s origins began from the progressive
  development of ska and rocksteady in 1960s.

 The tempo of reggae is slower than ska and
  rocksteady.

 Due to the slower tempo, reggae music can be
  differentiated from other forms of music.

 It is also know as bashment music.

 Dancehall has a much faster tempo than reggae
  music.

 Dancehall can be characterized by a deejay singing
  or rapping over danceable music.
