It is a well established fact that school children and disadvantaged children are most vulnerable in disasters. Giving the due importance to safety of the children, Saritsa Foundation has identified “Safety of Children” as one of the priority dimension to reduce risk from disaster and impacts of climate change since 2000.
Saritsa Foundation has evolved ways and means with focused realities of strengths and challenges, which provide simple and analytical guidance to school and disadvantaged children in rural and urban India.
Saritsa Foundation has built capacity amongst school teachers, students by shaping up skills and confidence to minimize losses of lives. Saritsa Foundation reaches to the “Door Steps” of children with the team of experts, trainers and motivators to towns, mega cities including the remotest villages and snow covered areas in 18 states of India.
The aim of these on going campaigns has been to build survival capacity amongst school children, disadvantaged children, teachers and parents to develop a mind-set of safety culture.

4. Objectives
1. To develop rapport with children to change
their mindset of helplessness and
powerlessness by reaching to them at their
“Door Steps”.
2. To build capacity by imparting life saving
education.
3. Make practical training and mock drills as an
important part of training.
4. Make school rescue and evacuation teams.
5. Develop school safety manuals.
5. Methodology
1. Raising awareness of children to the local
proneness and severity of disaster threats to
their schools in their areas.
2. The importance of school safety the need of
preparedness and their partnership is
highlighted.
3. The participants are divided in similar groups.
4. Education is reinforced by practical training,
rehearsals, mock drills rescue drills and play-lit
and assessment of response to painted live
situation.
5. Organizing school response and rescue teams
6. and evolving schools safety plans including raising
awareness about structural norms to be followed is
taken care.
6. Sensitizing parents, school administration and
local administrations active partnership.
7. Imparting training and education to teachers.
8. Provisioning for protecting women and girls
from sexual violence.
7. Saritsa Foundation prepares visually impaired
girls, women and School children for disasters
on eve of International Disaster Reduction day
2013.
Saritsa Foundation conducts 4 workshops on
Life Saving Education from 12th October to 30th
November.
