The document outlines the author's methodology and philosophy for teaching and mentoring students. They plan to create an inclusive classroom environment through various teaching methods and being available to students. Students will be engaged through enthusiastic lessons, group work, and presentations. Informal assessments of group work will provide feedback to improve teaching. Formal assessments like homework, quizzes, and exams will gauge student learning and the effectiveness of lessons, helping the author continually improve. Course evaluations will also obtain student feedback.
1. Below, I will outline my methodology and philosophy towards teaching and mentoring
in order to achieve my goals.
Creating an inclusive classroom environment: A critical prerequisite for learning is an
open, inclusive and respectful environment. I want my classroom to be comfortable in order to
motivate my students to both learn and actively participate in discussions, as well as to develop a
positive attitude about learning. In my discussion sessions, I will arrive early to class, stay late
after class, and make good use of office hours so that students have more opportunities to ask
questions and share opinions. Addressing each student’s particular learning style is also key to an
inclusive classroom environment, and I will pursue this goal via a mix of different teaching
methods, including multiple lecture formats, images and graphs, demos, mind maps, and group
work and discussions.
Engaging students: Another important element of teaching is not just lecturing students, but
engaging them as well. Towards this end, I will deliver lessons with enthusiasm and excitement,
and assign group work each session, including group discussions, to keep students engaged. At
the end of each session, the groups will present their work to the class, ensuring cooperation and
engagement between them.
Informal assessment: I believe informal assessments are crucial for refining my teaching
skills and methods. Therefore, I will provide real-time feedback on group activities to cultivate a
dynamic and constantly improving classroom environment. Assessments will involve checking
in with students as they work in groups, which will in turn help me to measure the efficacy of my
lessons, provide assistance to specific students, and make adjustments to lessons where needed.
Formal assessment: Homework, quizzes and exams will be of great importance, permitting
me to gauge how well students independently investigate problems and the effectiveness of my
lessons for teaching the necessary methods and techniques. Formal assessments like these will
help me continually improve as a teacher. I also plan to periodically distribute course evaluation
worksheets to obtain feedback and suggestions from students on how to make the classroom
experience more rewarding.
In sum, teaching with clarity, passion, empathy and sincere enthusiasm effectively impacts
students, ultimately connecting them to their own passion and desire to learn.
