So to recap, I designed the following
slides
Which I said were ‘Good.’
Feel free to fast forward
Pretty cool right!
Well not quite. They won’t work!
Well, definitely not in a boardroom.
So how would I present it then?
Well…it would most likely look like this…
Or more realistically this…
Allow me to explain a few points.

Your potential
customer DOESN’T
give a F@#K about
you…
I am sorry for being crude…
But that is the reality
All they want to know…
Is how you can help THEM.

YOU are the
presentation
Yes, I am talking to YOU
Your slides are there to support you
To help drive and make a point.
Your client wants to work with YOU…
NOT your slide deck.
#
Do your
homework
If you have secured that meeting…
Clearly they are interested In what
you have to offer.
So do your research
What is it they really want?
Reduce costs?
Increase sales?
What are their motivators?
#
Chances are they
don’t know
themselves!
We’ve all been there right!
Some clients think they need one thing
The reality is they need something else
So this is your
moment to help
them.
Figure out what they truly need.
Just like a doctor carrying
out a diagnosis
I don’t remember my doctor giving
me a presentation!
#
Build a relationship
The risk with slides is that you
talk AT them
And there is limited interaction.
#
Think of it as
Speed Dating
You only have one chance…
to leave a lasting
impression…
Would you use that time to go
through slides?
#
Keep the END GOAL
in mind
What is it YOU WANT to achieve
from the meeting?
Trying to sell that $10,000 solution…
…in the FIRST meeting?
Or do you want to whet their appetite…
And demonstrate that they actually
need you.
BONUS POINT
Think EMOTION
Yes, features are standard…
and benefits are great…
But people make
decisions based on
emotions.
What emotions do you want…
Your clients to feel about you?
OK…so back to my main point about
CONTEXT.
My original slides were designed to
be viewed on
I had to write a narrative…
And try to make some impact,
And create
some reaction.
All this, without being
physically in front
of you.
Now, in a meeting room, the rules are
different
I would be competing with every
other marketing expert out there.
So what do I do?
Well my speciality is
figuring out what will
work for you
Every company I have helped…
has always started with a blank
sheet.
That is because YOU DON’T deserve
a generic solution.
You deserve a
tailored approach
One where YOU are the centre of
the universe
YOU deserve your own Van Gough of
marketing…
who will create your own
personal Starry Night.
Now…would that work by giving a
generic presentation in a
boardroom?
Perhaps….again you need to look at
context.
If you are presenting to
one person…
I would probably avoid it.
But if it is a team then a
presentation is the way to go.
But HOW you design those slides is key!
Will you put the usual standard
company info…
And talk about
how great you are?
Or will you create a presentation…
that leaves a lasting impression?
