Hollywood ’s Terrorist Ideas The Hollywood terrorists tend to have minimal motives for acting or stereotypical one-bin Laden, by contrast, has clearly articulated his reasons for waging jihad (once in 1996 and 1998 due to the United States military involvement in Saudi Arabia). Iraq War quote- ‘the war is profiled in to ways. First, footage of Iraq before the U.S bombs began falling shows smiling, middle-class Iraqis and happy children’. Firestorm
Iraq In many documentaries about the Iraq war, it shows the Iraqis stress that nationalism and Islam are their motivations for taking up arms against what they regard as American invaders. From reading this I have learnt about the Iraq war in more detail in film and also Hollywood's view on the middle east.
Fear, Terrorism and Popular Culture Quote- ‘Any retreat by the United States would indicate to the terrorists that the US has lost its will in the war against terrorism and would damage US credibility. In the section named ‘Terrorism and the Project for the New American Century’ it tells us about how the Iraq war was planned nearly ten years advance and it is apart of the US as ‘rulers’ of the world. The main argument at the time of invasion was because of so-called ‘WMD’ which was proven false.
Iraq in Fragments Iraq in Fragments illuminates post-war Iraq in three acts, building a picture of a country pulled in different directions by religion and ethnicity. Filmed in verité style with no scripted narration, the film explores the lives of ordinary Iraqis to illustrate and give background to larger trends in Iraqi society.
My Views It was really interesting about how U.S imperialism has effected Iraq. I was slightly surprised to find out that the people prefer Saddam then the U.S because ‘he wouldn’t let the country be in the state it ’s in ’ . From the beginning of the film we see Pre-Iraq and how lively it was to post-Iraq. One scene which I fought was interesting is when the boy says ‘He loves me like a father, he would n’ t hit me’ but then we see him getting hit by a stick. Then, he repeats the saying (Makes me think of how the U.S and Saddam treat the civilians the same).
Green Zone Following the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his men are charged with finding the so-called weapons of mass destruction, whose existence justified American involvement, according to the Pentagon and their man in Baghdad, Poundstone. Veteran CIA operative Marty tells Miller that there are no weapons, it is a deception to allow the Americans to take over the country and install a puppet leader. Also suspicious of Poundstone is Wall Street Journal reporter Lawrie Dayne, who lets slip to Miller that Poundstone told her he had secret talks in Jordan with an important Iraqi, code-named Magellan, who told him about the weapons, though it now seems likely Magellan's true information was to the contrary.

The Hurt Locker An intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. James behaves as if he's indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.
My Views
Jarhead Anthony "Swoff" Swofford, a Camus-reading kid from Sacramento, enlists in the Marines in the late 1980s. He malingers during boot camp, but makes it through as a sniper, paired with the usually-reliable Troy. The Gulf War breaks out, and his unit goes to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. After 175 days of boredom, adrenaline, heat, worry about his girlfriend finding someone else, losing it and nearly killing a mate, demotion, latrine cleaning, faulty gas masks, and desert football, Desert Storm begins. In less than five days, it's over, but not before Swoff sees burned bodies, flaming oil derricks and oil-drenched horse.
